Still going strong!
I bought this back in October of 2017 and the fact that I still have it is pretty amazing. It still works at scraping left over burned animal flesh from my smoker and BBQ (primarily chicken thighs and porker shoulder with a smattering of pork ribs).I haven't encountered any metal splinters yet as another reviewer stated so maybe I'm just lucky or maybe I'm using it correctly. I don't rub this onto the food I'm cooking but rather on the grate after I've scraped it with a flat metal spatula. My strategy is to dislodge the large chunks of burnt animal flesh first with the flat spatula, and then to use this device to get the smaller debris and cooked on carbonized bits. With a little elbow grease it works surprisingly well. The wire bristles deform slightly with pressure and are able to get between the grates.Overall I would (and will) buy it again when this one does start leaving shards of metal behind. As an aside it's not a bad idea (actually it's a good idea) to wipe down your grate with some high temp vegetable oil before grilling. I use a wadded paper towel and tongs to rub this oil soaked was on the grates. This does two things, 1) it cleans the grates somewhat and would eliminate any errant shards of metal or any other gross bits left from your last cook, 2) it provides a nice oiled surface for your meat to rest on (and stick less). It's pretty insane how much crud comes up when you wipe down the grate so I would highly recommend it.
