I purchased this in December of 2017 and have been in use since then. I just wanted to post a long term review. I attached to a board with smooth on one side and rough on the other. I use it to strop all manner of plane blades, chisels, and knives used building guitars and violins.I would certainly buy this product again if I were to destroy it...which hasn't happened in the 5 years I have been using it. Two Thumbs Up!

Topest quality leather, cant find better

Well it's a simple enough product. 2 large and 2 small pieces of leather and some tape. With that being said, there's many simple products that I've purchased in the past that was bad quality. This kit from the first few uses seems to be exactly what I was expecting. A good product at what I feel is a decent price.I use it bare as a final touch in my sharpening process and it works great. I didn't load it with any paste because I have other strops that are already loaded. I also don't use the supplied tape and attach it to a board. I didn't need to. I just lay it on the edge of my desk and it doesn't move. That way I can actually use both sides. So basically I have 4 sides I can use instead of just 2 if I had adhered it to a board.I'm very happy with what I got and how it works. If I ever have to replace them, I'll definitely re-purchase these again. But that won't be for a while because I see these lasting for a very long time. But I will recommend these to others.

As an experienced woodworker and beginner woodcarver I’ve found these strops to be of excellent quality. All the five star reviews have stated it well already so I won’t repeat what’s already been said. I’ve made other strops for my chisels and hand planes and I found the quality of the leather used to be superior. The double sided sticky tape, which is very strong, made making my new strops very easy. Upton is a small company that clearly takes pride in their craftsmanship.

I'm a long time wood worker that is breaking into wood-carving. I made a couple of paddles and ordered in this leather to attach to them for strops. A couple of things- the supplied adhesive is surprisingly strong and thus far seems very durable. One of the pieces of leather seemed a bit more pliable than the other, but the thickness and finish were consistent and very nice, I put coarse compound on one and fine on the other. It is really stunning how quickly I can refresh the cutting edge of my carving tools to razor sharpness. For cabinet work my chisels are also reaping the benefit, I can touch up the cutting edge much quicker than using a stone.

The quality of this leather is superb. I am only using the tanned side for diamond compounds, but the suede side is excellent too. I used the supplied 2-sided tape for mounting these to some leftover oak plywood pieces I had, but any smooth wood will do just fine as long as it is FLAT.Right now I am trying to decide if I like the these or the basswood strops better. However if I determine the leather is the winner, I know where I am getting my next ones.

This kit is nice. There is a nice stamp at the top and comes packaged well. I can't comment on the adhesive as I glued this down to a piece of wood but it felt tacky enough to do the job. Performance wise it's a bit softer than I'm used to but I don't hate that at all. The leather is thick and consistent. My only complaint is minor but the color is a bit bright with a touch of pink?. Other than that this was money well spent, and since this was a 2 pack I'm set for a decade.

I liked the leather on these strops (both smooth and rough sides). With the adhesive tape, easy to mount on a plate of glass or as a convenient replacement for an old leather piece on a wooden bench paddle strop. Once mounted, very easy to apply compound to.
