Few vignerons in Juliénas can make wines like Lilian and Sandrine Matray. Their "basic" bottling Les Paquelets is an incredible wine it's own right. But the Vielles Vignes takes it to a whole another level. The grapes for this wine come from old vines of almost 60 years of age. It spend 10 months in oak barrels. It has notes of vanilla, blackberries and black currants. This is a rich wine and would start showing better in 2015 or so, but will age gracefully for another 10 years! A wine made for red meat, game or try making coq-au-vin with this wine and pair it with the same!
