Body Awareness as Healing Therapy: The Case of Nora

Moshe helps Nora (a lady who had a stroke) recover her ability to move normally, obtain awareness of body, left, right...His technique is different. He can feel the person's mood, correct and incorrect movements, tension, relaxation... with his hands. He knows how to position the body certain ways and move it certain ways to correct malfunctions. Brings correct sense of body, space... awareness. I like the way he set Nora in a position that made her have a weightless effect. Very relaxed. He moved his hand on her head certain ways, lightly and made the spine feel all tension, pressure release, a weightlessness. I tried it, it works!I like how he teaches to learn left and right; he does not use the word left, right at first when teaching a specific left, right movement or awareness.Uses knowledge of the brain's function with the body. The left, right... brain hemispheres, their functions. Describes how babies, children learn to walk.., learn left, right.., speak, read, write. He uses special ways to produce these lost, impaired functions.I especially like the way he improved Nora's eyesight and produced ability to read words, sentences, then onto producing the ability to write.He used a straw held in the mouth/lips (where speech is used first as we grow, and then learn to read words, then write).Her hand was placed on the straw. The end of the straw under a word. The straw got the left and right eyes to focus together on the word.Nora would see 2 images of the straw when looking at a certain place along the straw. (the images produced by the left, right eyes. (A similar effect, practice is; the bead or brock string.)Moshe states many people have one eye that has clearer vision. He asked Nora if one of the eyes' images appear less solid..? She said yes. He said; that image is from the eye that has less clear vision. He then used the straw, techniques to improve the vision in that eye; got both eyes' vision improved and equal. She then after more treatments... was able to read! Seeing clear and also improved ability to understand the words, sentences.Moshe states; when the close vision (reading...) left-right eye convergence is improved; this also automatically improves the left-right divergence for the far vision.He respects his patients, treating them as equals, one human to another growing, improving each other. He learned a lot from Nora and other patients and thus improved, created his wonderful technique over many years practice. His past professions are also interesting, useful.Definitely recommend his books.

Body Awareness as Healing Therapy: The Case of Nora by Moishe FeldenkraisA fan of everything Feldenkrais,This genius of a man discovered "Neural Plasticity" decades before it became the 'buzz' word of today - the exciting new way of rewiring, changing, growing ones brain, until one passes on!As ingenious as Michael Mezernicht, (the inventor of the first cochlea implant) insightful as Norman Doidge (in his hugely enlightening books on our brain's neural plasticity) Dr Feldenkrais has evolved a system of rehabilitation that works from new-born to geriatric.He taught a large number of disciples and there are centers in his name all over the world.His method must be sound. true and trustworthy, as his methods have not changed very much since he died in 1984.The most brilliant talent was 1. his belief in the people, who were crippled by many medical diseases (strokes, Cerebral Palsy, accidents, etcetera) whose readiness and ability to heal,was inspired , as was Nora, and 2. his belief that if one proceeded along the route ordained to us - the natural hierarchy of child development rewiring was instinctual and familiar.His descriptions accompanied by surprise and wonder are a breath of fresh air.

For me this book on Nora was outstanding. Wow is all I can say. He writes with a technical flair but it was very understandable. A real Picasso! I've had a stroke, although not with the devastating results of Nora's episode. My balance is horrible, I can barely take three steps without almost falling or actually falling. The Case of Nora was a great book for me to get started with in learning about the Feldkrais Method , but now I'd like to move on and go a little deeper before I might possibly join up with an FMethod practioner or group. Any advice for me about this as my"next step" from readers interested in helping me.

The Feldenkrais Method for healing was established by Moshe Feldenkrais, and like many healing techniques got turned into a copyrighted certification program for raking in money and cranking out therapists. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the method except, like many, the insistence in an understanding of absolutely how things work and how one should proceed accordingly. It's a good jumping off place and good exposure to the ideas of healing and energy work and the mind/body connection and how that can link with physical therapy. All in all I found it limiting but OK. It just didn't jive with how I experience the movement of energy in the body. But that's OK. We're all different.

I have had some amazing healings from my Feldenkraise sessions. bladder troubles, acid reflux. This book shows how the practioners go on a case to case basis.

This book inspires one to look beyond the curse of a diagnosis, so often cast by arrogant neurologists who really know very little beyond book memorization, It should be required reading for ALL medical students, in particular those endeavoring towards a neuro residency.

A good book to read first.

Not a lover of these kinds of books, but having said that I found it interesting to see how Moshe set about the solution.Worth the journey.

Just read and reread. There's so much to learn!

This is a real case that Moshe works with a ladfy highly damaged and he explains the principles of his work. I am looking forward to read it ...but it has not arrived yet!
