I wear a women’s US size 4. Will the xs work for me?

They should. I wear a size 6 and they work fine with my feet. I find that the more I wear them the easier they are to put on.

10+ year user of Yoga Toes here. Gems are the easiest to put on. If you're looking for a deeper stretch, however, Original is better. I wear a women's size 6.5 and occasionally use Men's Yogs Toes when I really want to give my feet a good workout!

How does it compare size wise? Base it on dress sizes or tennis shoes?

Your regular shoe size, so I guess dress? Tennies tend to be wider, so you would typically not need to stretch your toes....
