Delivery was fairly prompt and I'm happy with the product's appearance and quality. I tested out with a few semi-decent Western-style knives and was very happy with the results. Several I barely use any more as they can't even cut through tomato skin at an angle, but they are razor sharp now.The set-up and soaking takes a while but it's quite relaxing sharpening a decent burr on a knife and much better than other types of sharpener I've used in the past. It's not ideal for every knife, but I'm also quite happy with the small tool they included to help get a consistent angle when sharpening each side of the blade.Makes a big difference for lots of prep work and absolutely essential if you're going to be cutting foods that need a good edge like sashimi.** I rely heavily on reviews from others when purchasing items online so I try to be as thorough and honest in giving my opinion as possible. The three star review is entirely unfair, but I have no way of offering star ratings for function and delivery.I'll start with the good news. The whetstone is excellent, I have sharpened several kitchen knives that I had previously thought had a good edge. It turns out they were blunt! Now they are super sharp. I watched a few YouTube videos for guidance before using the whetstone and a good job too as the instructions are in Japanese. I've used both sides of the stone and can vouch for the 6000 side 'tuning' the knives. I've never used a similar stone before and was doubtful of the need for such a smooth polish, but it really helps.The problem with the whetstone is that it has a small piece missing from the 1000 side. The piece was in the plastic box. I have no way of knowing whether the problem occurred in the factory, in the packing, or the delivery. It was evident through the plastic pack it comes in, though, so the problem should have been spotted at whichever stage it occurred. Luckily the damage is on a corner that is easily avoided but it still annoys somewhat. I can't be bothered to go through the return process - my nearest Post Office is miles away.I still recommend the product from a usage perspective, but the small damage lets the side down.

Had this a week now. First time I’ve used a wet stone so started off with some cheap knives we had kicking around. It’s all about technique get that right and you’ll be right with this product. I can’t compare it to any other stone as I’ve never used one. Get some practice in, make sure you keep your stone wet and give it a good soak before use. Keep your angle tight and take your time (it can take over an hour just to get a burr on a blunt knife with this stone) after a few tries you’ll soon get a feel for it and the results will be far far better than any other method of sharpening. I’m actually considering buying myself a better selection of grits. But for home sharpening this combination is spot on. My wife is terrified of all her knives now 😂 YouTube has plenty of tutorials although I’d recommend “burrfection” And it’s very therapeutic 😊 I can’t recommend this product enough for your kitchen knives. I’ve also used it to sharpen my EDC spyderco paramilitary its hair shaving sharp now! One thing I will mention, this comes with an angle keeper, your much better off learning to sharpen without it.

It is a quality water stone made by king and as it is with all king water stones top quality is guaranteed, however this stone came with runs and marks and a slight chip which was not there when it left kings factory and I know this because kings quality control is second to none and it would not of left the factory other wise. All of my stones are King’s or Shapton’s and not one has come with issues apart from this one so this is Amazons fault for not handling theses fragile stones correctly and the other thing is this is just the standard whetstone size so in the picture it looks a lot bigger as all of my king stones and the shapton stones come a lot bigger so I’m just going to use this one on small knives like folding knives or pairing knives and tools etc etc. I’m going to send this one back to amazon and get it replaced.

The King KW-65 was my first whetstone purchase and I'm delighted with it. All the kitchen knives are now incredibly sharp, as are my outdoor knives. The additional blade guide is a great help in getting a feel for how to position your blade for the optimal sharpening angle. I was able to use these whetstones to take chips out of the edge of the blade and return them to a new condition. Although the skill of sharpening improves with experience, I found that performing 100 strokes (eg. on each side of the blade) on the 1000 grain stone, 30 strokes on the 6000 grain, and 50 on a leather strop (or belt) provided razor sharp edges. My next purchase will likely be a dressing stone to keep these whetstones in excellent, flat condition. Great product, great price. Stones arrived in excellent packaging and without any marks.
