I made fun of ChiChi for buying this entire pack for alaska. Boy was I wrong, these things kept our hands warm deep into the Alaskan trip. Each packet lasted almost the entire day. We still use this package two years later, that's how good the value was for the size of these heaters. Absolutely worth the price for the package size. You'll get years of use.One warning I would say, is that even the size of the heating pads are small, they can get VERY hot, so do not put directly on your skin if you are new to these heating pads.

I've used these handwarmers before, mostly when winter camping in the high desert.I decided to look for another solution, and bought a pair of rechargeable hand warmers. Tried several brands. Performance was a mixed bag, but generally they got plenty warm when kept in a pocket, but held in the open air they often struggled to keep up with the cold. When slipped into my glove, they would, at best, give off lukewarm heat. In other words, hand warmers that would keep you warm unless it was really cold out - what's the point?Next up - refillable lighter-fluid hand warmers. These were a bit more consistent than the electronic warmers, but the 6 hour version I purchased wasn't super warm either. Biggest downside is that once you start them there is no 100% safe way to deactivate them - you're supposed to let them exhaust their fuel. And where they are very low odor, if you have one of these in your shirt pocket you will get a faint scent of lighter fluid from time to time.Strike one against electronic warmers, strike two against fluid based warmers. Back to the classics for me. They put out decent heat, work well in my gloves, and I can share if I'm camping with a group. Long lasting, and even TSA approved they say.

I live in the northeast with temperatures dipping into negative numbers. I will use these in my mittens when it gets to the teens and below. I walk about four miles a day. I'll open a pack about half hour before I set off to let them warm up. These will stay toasty warm much longer than the hour plus of my walk. I would definitely recommend them.
