Miss Sloane [DVD] [2017]

What Is The Price Of Winning?
Movie about a sharp career minded focused woman with intelligence and foresight, in a battle against the gun lobby, and making plain the vulnerability of US democracy to money and lobbying groups. Movie about a woman who is thought to be all about winning regardless of the cause , but the movie shows them to be wrong. Does show the US democratic system needs to change, so that they can concentrate on good, just rules and causes rather than on money to fund their election campaigns, and well guns - do you need a semi-automatic?

Clever plot, fine acting
I did not know the actress playing the main character, yet she excelled in her part and played it beautifully. The plot is engaging and has all the twists and turns to keep you going. The top moment for me came when the male escort stood up for Miss Sloane in court: I was not expecting that - yet I was hoping for him to show up right at the very end of the film, which did not happen.Full marks to the film director, two hours of filming for what is very good value for money.

Good Narrative but film long winded
Good storyline. But the film was long winded.Scenes boringly slow to get to the point. It was alright.

Great plot, maintains suspense, Jessica Chastain's performance impactful - and 'Yecch!' to the Lobbying Industry
Watched it on Prime, but good enough to be worth forking out for the DVD.The fact that a lot of papers only gave this a 3 star review, citing 'implausibility' and the consequential meagre box-office receipts is enough to make you wonder whether the Lobbying Fraternity itself didn't turn their attention pro bono to bringing this coruscating movie down. Why watch it? Firstly, great tension all the way through - and personally I didn't feel it did this in a contrived way (all the way to the surprise ending). In the early part of the film it does suffer from that annoyingly slick Aaron Sorkin type of dialog - no human being really talks that way you know, even if some of us are impressed by that kind of thing - but the plot and Jessica Chastain's performance make up for that minor annoyance. The first-time writer (Jonathan Perera) was a high-flying lawyer who did thorough research on the whole lobbying industry, and if only 20% of what he writes is accurate, the film should be enough to make your hair stand on end. Many reviews are strangely and unnecessarily vituperative - the Irish Times said it was 'utterly daft' and 'operates at the level of a mildly smart high-school student who hasn’t yet grasped the real indicators of intelligence', which is way off the mark but representative of the negative criticism levelled at this movie. We don't get to find out really anything about Chastain's character and her background apart from a few seconds worth of tantalising gestures and expressions, which would normally be an issue for me - but then this is a plot-driven movie at the end of the day, and it works just fine doing that. There is a curious asexuality to the character - not quite the 'more balls than you' type of attitude, though she does manage to eschew showing practically any of the traits conventionally associated with the female sex. Then again, the Greeks had Medea and Phaedra and they're still doing the rounds...Overall a great first script (and the directing by John Madden fits it well), but Perera's next script - should he still have any appetite for Tinsel Town - would do well to perhaps spend a little more time on character background, even if the plot of this particular movie is so good that the lack of it here is no big deal. He sounds an interesting and decent guy on interview, so no doubt he has the smarts to be able to do it.

Engaging plot and good acting
Good film, plot and acting. Political and court room (senate hearing) drama.
