Fast prime portrait lens good in low light quality glass
This is a quality product. Autofocus and manual ...no VR but no problem for me. VR is useful if the subject is moving but not if you are moving. Excellent portrait lens with good Bokeh. Its autofocus is not the fastest especially in low light but does the job. manual focus is made easier due to good wide lens. Capable of natural low light exposures but this comes with a large price tag. Sharp even at fl.4.

Portaits - portraits - über alles
Went to a family gathering tlast weekend and took pictures of all the members. This is a fabulous lens. which is perfects for portraits. Very shallow DOF and quite sharp even at f-stop 1.4.Highly recommended. Disappointed with Amazon to find that they used Danish VAT (25%) rather than British (17.5%)without telling beforehand. Sure I live in Denmark, but that increased the price about a hundred £!

Top Notch Lens
Well done to Nikon, this is a fantastic lens the picture quality is second to none and just love the bokeh. The main reason for this purchase is that I have upgraded my Nikon D300 to the new D800 so the lens had to match the superb camera.So if anyone who can afford this top banana lens I would deff recommend this over the 1.8g which is also a very good lens also but the difference stands out for your portrait subjects.If this is your next item for your collection then go and buy it as you will be amazed.

nikon 85mm f/1.4G.for me, the best prime lens ever
its like abreath of fresh air,every time I put it on my D600 or D700 it makes me think to myself this is what photography is all about.Its so sharp at the focus point and the out of focus (bokeh) is so smooth.I have some great lenses 24-70,2.8--70-200,2.8 VRII, 17-35,2.8 and 50,1.4G,all top rate but not in my opinion as good as-the 85mm f/1.4G.would I recommend buying it,If you have the dosh,YES, this lens will last you a long time.I had to save for 2 years for mine.bohitch

Biggest rubbish ever bought
Horrible lens. After not being able to ever take a sharp image I sent it off for calibration, the report came back the lens is rubbish quality even the elements are not fitted well. Now I'm going for sigma 85 art cheaper and ways better quality.

Your perfect close-up lens
This lens is perfect for portraits.Very bright.Close-up shots have an attractive 'bokeh' effect.It will very likely become my 'prime' lens.Great packaging and fast delivery.Highly recommended
