Rubbish for general use.
Not very water proof. Very wet feet after walking in grass and the plastic coating has come way from the front of the boot allowing water to wick in to the boot. On the other boot the rubber sole has started to delaminate, poor manufacturing. DO NOT BUY IF YOU INTEND TO GO HILL WALKING IN THE WET or even just walking. After Six months the sole has now come way from the right boot. They are rubbish stay clear form them as not Hitec.

Worst Hi-Tec's I've ever had
I've had these two months and I've finally given up on them.Generally I like Hi-Tec kit but these are absolutely terrible.First time I wore them out, I got back from my walk with soreness to the left side of my shins. There is absolutely no give in the supports of these boots, so I had to start wearing them with out the top eye of the boot not used.A walk in wet grass and my feet were sodden. The final straw for me is the inner lining is starting to crease up in side and this is leading to blisters where I shouldn't be getting blisters.I'm going to try to return the goods.

Size seems to vary from boot to boot
When these size 7 boots arrived (I am a 6.5 wide fitting), the right boot fit very nicely with one thin and one thick pair of socks, which is what I would normally use. The left boot was a different matter, and I could barely get it on with just a thin sock. Contacted Amazon who suggested that it was probably a manufacturing defect and dispatched another pair straight away. The second pair of size 7 boots arrived the next day (so 5 stars to Amazon for customer service) and I tried on the left boot. It was still unacceptably tight with a thin sock and the left one wasn't much better. Bear in mind that, at this point, I had BOTH pairs of boots, so I was able to compare the fit of all four boots immediately, I didn't have to rely on memory. (The left boot of pair 1 SEEMED to be smaller all round than the others, but whether that is just my imagination or not, I can't say.)I've used Hi-Tec Trails, in a size 7, for 30 years or so, but they seem to be discontinued, so I thought that the sizing would, at least, be similar, and the fact that these are recommended by the Duke of Edinburgh's Scheme led me to think that I would get a reasonably decent pair of boots in which to walk the dog. It would seem not.

OK while they lasted
Purchased September 2016, falling apart December 2017. These boots do have a wide fit, serve their purpose adequately but don't expect them to last. These have not really had a lot of use - for the first 6 months I had them, they were used no more than 3 hours per week on average. Since April I have probably worn them 7 or 8 hours per week. Both boots are now showing exactly the same problem in that the sole is separating from the inside front of the upper boot. Unless I can replace them quickly I doubt they will last another few weeks and they now offer no waterproof protection at all. The soles and uppers both have loads of wear left in them but not if they are not connected to each other.Perhaps my expectations are too high and mid-range boots are not built to last, but this is just not good at all. These would be 3-4 star boots if they had a longer life but I'm really disappointed and will not buy Hi Tec again.

Cheap(-ish) but good (-ish)
These seem to get very varied reviews - from * to ***** with nothing much in between. My own experience suggests an overall ****. To start with, they were a comfortable fit right out of the box, not usual given my battered feet (culprit: 70 years of boots and wellies). I've now had them a year and wear them pretty much every day. Distances covered vary from short walks in local woods to days out on fells. Conditions underfoot also vary, from moderate to rough. I'm in Cumbria so, wherever and whenever, more often than not there's a lot of rain. After a year of that sort of use, I can report: overall condition of boots, still fine (soles somewhat worn but still solid; soles and uppers still firmly attached to each other); waterproofing has worked equally fine, even on days of steady rain. (I doubt they'd withstand a day on the fells of really torrential rain - but, then, few boots would.) One small criticism and one assumption. Criticism: the laces supplied are flat, not round, and not very sturdy: it's easy to get them partly caught in the top eye and for the lace as a result first to fray and then to disintegrate completely (verb. sap.!). Assumption based on the fact that the tread on the soles is not very deep (in places, it hardly exists: more a surface pattern than a tread): I doubt these would grip well in really frosty conditions. (Last winter, in my part of Cumbria at least, was exceptionally wet but also quite mild so it wasn't an assumption I was able to test in practice.) The disasters other people have had with them suggest a problem with quality control? Or a change of supplier? Or both!
