Marvel Studio's Captain America: The Winter Soldier [Blu-ray] [Region Free]

When I saw the first Captain America film The first Avenger I was pleasantly surprised at how they had taken the source material and turned it into a fun film. What they did with Captain America The Winter Soldier however just blew me away by it's spy thriller take on the superhero genre.The film starts with a bang as Steve Rogers (Captain America) and a SHIELD strike team launch a mission to rescue a ship taken over by french merceneries. The action here is fast, brilliantly choreographed and often brutal with how Steve and Natasha (The black Widow) deal with threats really setting the new tone for how the film is going to be. From here on there are gun fights, car chases and even aerial dog fights but each scene is more than a tick box, it's exciting and often flat out awesome.The action aside, this film has some great moments of Steve trying to find his place in modern times, some surprise twists, as well as nice tie in's with previous Marvel films as well as the Marvel agents of SHIELD tv series for those who watch it. The acting is superb and the cast bounce very well off each other adding some genuinely funny moments at the right places.The blu-ray extras are a little thin on the ground compared with some. It has a director commentary (I didn't listen), some making of featurettes which I really enjoyed, especially on the combat scenes, as well as a short gag reel and extended deleted scene sequence. All worth a look through, 30 mins tops though without rewatching the film with commentary.To sum up this isn't just a great superhero film, not a great Marvel studios film, it's just an excellent film full stop. It builds on the strengths of Marvels previous entries and improves in other areas. Highly recommended.+ Fantastic action.+ Excellent quiet moments.+ Great choreography and visuals.+ Ties in with Marvel Agents of SHIELD brilliantly.

Fantastic film and sets up so many aspects to come in the MCU.

This is a real upgrade on the 1st film. I felt that the character of the Captain was much better explored here, as well as his 'fish out of water' experience after being frozen. On top of that he felt more relevant tackling modern problems than the fight against the Nazis. To me these two elements helped to overcome my initial scepticism about Captain America as one of the foremost franchises in the Marvel Movie Universe. Also Scarlett Johanson as Black Widow is electric, she complements the captain with her more cynical world view and is his equal in the action stakes. It is definately about time that Marvel pulled their finger out and had her lead a movie!The story is good but not so complicated that you will get lost if you are just looking for an action Comic film, and there are plenty of easter eggs for long time marvel fans. The ramifications of this film will be felt throughout the Marvel universe, and i am glad that because they have heaped so much importance on it watching it is a pleasure.This has been my favourite of the first 3 Phase 2 films from Marvel and i recommend it to everyone

Probably my 2nd favourite Cap film, nice to see Toby Jones make a re-appearance. He's so versatile.

Having seen the movie yesterday it's got to be said in my opinion this is arguable the best movie marvel have made so far only the avengers tops it. Set in real time roughly two years after the events of new York the movie sees captain america getting to grips with the modern world. When he suspects all is not as it seems with the shield the world he lives in seems even further away from what he is used to. A blast from the past shakes him to the core and the revelations of this will alter all future marvel studios movies plus make you take another look at what's happened in the previous ones. I would say to get the best from this movie a little research is needed it is worth watching captain america the first avenger and avengers first as there are many things that tie up. In closing an amazing film would recommend it to anyone.

Wow ! Huge expectations after the highly favourable reviews to date, but this film definitely met them all. Great story. Great action, great one-liners, great characters. Yes, a great film. Not faultless, true, some of the scenes really do stretch the imagination and credibility, even in a film of this genre, but it is honest enough to keep on entertaining the viewer. I find Captain America a slightly dull character to be honest, but the injections of Black Widow et al. lift the film nicely. This is a very good follow up to Avengers and I look forward to Avengers 2 now. Good film all round, fun, entertaining, even better in Blu-ray !

This is possibly the best ever super hero film.The Avengers about equals it I suppose.The plot is not important ie Hydra tries to take over the world by taking over SHIELD blah blah blah.We know Cap is not about to let that happen.However how he goes about stopping them with the help of the Black Widow and the Falcon is incredible.The action is simply mind blowing and for a change there is some character building.Chris Evans is a revelation bringing a sense of pathos not usually found in a movie of this type.I cannot see this movie being bettered but I hope it is as it would be something to see.If you see only one super hero film in your life it should be this one.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is one of the best Marvel movies that I have in my collection. I didn't get the feeling Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely wrote and squeezed in too many characters who are completely unnecessary to the story plot (some writers do this to accommodate the whims of the producers). The feature length of 2 hours 16 minutes is just about right: the storyline is tight and free from dragging scenes; irrelevant subplots were minimized, if not eliminated altogether. The dose of well-planned, unique fight sequences is more than enough to satisfy any action film junkie. Finally, its picture and sound quality are both outstanding- this reference blu-ray will surely showcase the capabilities of one's home theater setup.
