Prompt dispatch.
This item, together with another, was intended as a present but was delayed in the post so I had to purchase an alternative and was naturally disappointed. However I realise that the delay was not the fault of D&B Entertainment who had dispatched it promptly so I have revised my rating. Since the company was aware that postal delays were possible I feel It would have been useful if their site had contained an appropriate warning.

Superb series by Scorsese
Have watched this series from the beginning and therefore bought this DVD for several friends and family. Who did not have the benefit of Sky Atlantic. Without exception, they are hooked! Set in the early 1900's it follows the life of a very successful Bootlegger in Atlantic City. I fact it was the start of Atlantic City being a centre for gambling etc. So many of the characters are from that era and the start of the US mafia. Very intricate plot, but brilliant in its twists and turns. Amazing what the US censors let thru. Gives you a true feeling of the nastiness of that world and the plight of women during that time. Will buy the next series as presents.

SUPERB GANGSTER DRAMA
Well on the strength of reviews I read and the fact it came down to half price on Amazon I finally sent off for the 1st series of BOARDWALK EMPIRE. This is the true story of Enoch 'Nucky' Johnson, mayor of Atlantic City during the years of Prohibition in 1920s America. A story featuring the origins of gangsters such as Al Capone, Lucky Luciano, Arnold Rothstein and Meyer Lanksy to name but a few. Produced by the legendary Martin Scorsese this has got to be one of the greatest TV series ever made! It is utterly brilliant in every respect. Infact there are films that are nowhere near as good as this. Be warned though it's not for the faint hearted. It pulls no punches and shows it like it was. Everyone in it is superb but Steve Buscemi in the pivotal role of Johnson is truly outstanding. I cannot recommend this series highly enough. Me, my girlfriend and my mum are all hooked! :-)

Period well captured
I have just finished watching the second disc. The jury was out on the first disc but now it is beginning to take hold. My wife and I agree that it is very watchable and are beginning to enjoy it. It might not be Breaking Bad, Dexter or The Good Wife but we feel it warrants 4 stars. The period has been caught very accurately and the storylines interesting. This was a very violent period in American history and anyone interested should invest in purchasing the 1939 James Cagney "The Roaring Twenties" one of the finest films ever made about this period.

Buscemi Rocks
I must admit I was hooked on the story just from the knowledge the Buscemi was in it, good grief it's brilliant I'm glad the Sky got hold of it first because, it meant I had to wait till the Box Set was available. The whole set-up, dress of the set and it's charicters, the development and story line(s) flows with a style that has to be worth watching it end to end, honestly I find this as engaging and thought provoking as 'The West Wing' and yes it really is that good.

Boardwalk Empire Season 1 (HBO)
I do not feel I need to say much about Boardwalk Empire to big it up as being in my opinion one of the best TV Series out there at the moment. It is fantastic! Some may feel the pace in the first few episodes is slow, but that is the beauty of the show. By doing this, the audience is able to become more attached to certain characters and understand who they are and their backgrounds before any real storylines begin. Any fan of the 1920's and especially gangster type programmes and films should definetly purchise this. You will not regret it!

BOARDWALK EMPIRE - STORY ABOUT PROHIBITION
Rhis is the first in the series of 3 (MAYBE 4). It is an intriguing take on the wealthy people involved in making money out of prohibition who live around the famous Boardwalk of Atlantic City The characters' emotional lives are intertwined in the story in a satisfying way. Of course there is a lot of violence as you would imagine. Steve Buscemi as the kingpin in the story and Kelly McDonald who belongs to the Women's Temperance Society, and whose husband is murdered by Buscemi's hanchmen plays the part of the woman drawn into Buscemi's life with realism.A good story, one that keeps you asking what will happen next. You will long to see the second series too.
