Q: I had a similar model with no blade retention - the tip often came out while on my keychain. Does this knife perform similarly?

No, there is a strong magnet that keeps the blade out or in. However, stabbing with this will not prevent the blade from going back into the handle. This is a nicely made but poorly engineered tool. The design is all there for this to have a locking mecinism with the spring loaded sliding lever but it seems they either got stumped or ran out of funds and went with the magnet. When I first bought it I was disappointed by the retraction mechanism but as that it stays in place for carry and use (but for stabbing poking) it has proven very helpful and useful. I find I don’t have to deploy my carry knife for small cutting or detailed cutting jobs. The handle is nicely anodized aluminum and the screws are cleanly machined. So for 20.00 I think it was worth it to me. For more than that unsure. I am a LE tactical knife instructor trainer and tactical FA instructor trainer. So that where I am conning from and I enjoy gadgets more than my budget allows so says my wife lol. God Bless and may God Bless and keep America strong.

Q: Do you have to take the screws out to change the blades or is it quick change blades?

Yes, you do need to take the screws out to change the blade. There are two small philips screws, and the whole blade swap could probably be done in under a minute

Q: Does it have a clip on the back ?

No, it does not. It is very tiny. There is a small slide button that pushes the blade out a little bit. A magnet holds the slide back in the retracted position. You push the slide forward to protrude the blade point, and you need to hold the slide button in the forward position with your finger tip to keep the blade from retracting when you apply pressure to the blade point. The knife is best suited for opening letters, boxes, cutting craft paper, hobby work, etc.
