This book is a beautiful work combining his visionary artwork with words that peel back the layers to the working of the universe. Using his experiences with sound and language Joseph guides you through a deep understanding of how life works. The book gives you an impressive sense of a mystical orientation that is at ease with the secrets and powers of the universe.The text in the book is supplemented with Joseph's unique style of line drawing artwork. His art has been displayed in galleries across the country. There are also references in the book to mp3 files on his website joseph rael dot org.Joseph was also the human instrument for the creation of the Peace Chambers worldwide as well as visionary dances such as the Long Dance, Drum Dance, and Sun Moon dance. These are not Native American dances but dances born out of visions and realizations given to Joseph. These dances are *highly* transformational experiences.I treasure all of Joseph's books and have multiple copies of a number of them to give to friends when the topic of spiritual growth comes up. This particular book is wide in both it's masterful understanding of sound and mysticism and also wide in it's appeal to a large community of self-discovering mystics. Make sure that you also get a copy of Being and Vibration which is another of his excellent books.

This book is basically an introductory description of Tewa cosmology, i.e. of how the world came into being. I can't do it justice, in words. Portions of it read like Quantum Mechanics. Other portions read like Drunvalo Melchizedek's breakdown, in sacred geometry, of the creation story in the bible  The Ancient Secret of the Flower of Life, Vol. 1 , or even  The Alphabet That Changed the World: How Genesis Preserves a Science of Consciousness in Geometry and Gesture . I have been looking for books like this since high school. There aren't very many;  The Seven Mysteries of Life  and  Lifetide  are similar grand tours, in their case of the natural world. I saw this mentioned in  Redneck Shaman , and got it accordingly.  House of Shattering Light: Life as an American Indian Mystic , also by Real, is similarly fascinating, in ways that are tough to describe. How would you describe a visit to Disneyworld, to a person who had no idea what Disney was about, had never visited an amusement park, and, let's say, lived on a mountain all their life? Same idea.  Quantum Theory (Dover Books on Physics)  is a bit dated, but I found it helped me to understand this book.  Journey to the Ancestral Self: The Native Lifeway Guide to Living in Harmony with the Earth Mother (Bk.1)  could be useful, in that it describes indigenous lifeways, in a way that makes sense to western people. Reading this book is like taking a seminar that is really life-changing, I didn't know one could do that with a book.

Having read all of Joseph Rael, Beautiful Painted Arrow's books I feel this is his very best. The way his wonderful images are combined with his brilliant insight and vision is deeply inspiring. No other teacher, Native American or other, speaks to my heart and spirit in the ways he does. How does one review such a book? The artwork and writing is of the spiritual kind. Joseph Rael is a shaman of Pueblo ancestry whose native name is "Beautiful Painted Arrow." I can only say that the book expresses truth. It is a powerful book made by a masterful shaman whose teachings are as ancient as fire, wind, water and wood, yet very significant to our modern struggling, egocentric, world.

All of his books offer meditation insight but this one more than the rest. Gave me the reason to meditate going beyond working on myself. This book with Visionary (kurt wilt) bridge the gaps between eastern meditation and western prayer practice. More science than mysticism.

I love Joseph Rael ,he has the magic touch in teaching honoring and respecting the mother, weaving ancient wisdom in todays world in a way that transports heart soul and mind.
