Skin hypersensitive to UV but I find I can fairly safely go out if meter intensity reading is 0 or 1 but avoid 2 or higher unles
It replaced one I had carelessly lost. I still like it even at its now higher price.. My reason for use is unusual . Not for sunbathing; just the opposite. Skin hypersensitive to UV but I find I can fairly safely go out if meter intensity reading is 0 or 1 but avoid 2 or higher unless using very good sun block, protective clothing, uv proof umbrella, ,etc .Other sufferers may find it useful and determine their own limits. On line weather UV index listings are useful but unlike the meter they do not tell you what uv you personally are receiving at your specific place and time. I do not make use of the other refinements of this nicely compact instrument.. . Jack

Not Accurate
I do not think this product is very good. In really intense sunshine the Suncounter does not go above 3. I have tried leaving the counter outside in strong sunshine for hours and when I press "Meas Adj" as stated in the instructions it sometimes shows a reading of 1! I have a Uv meter on my weather station and that is showing a reading of 5 or 6 at this time of year. Just thought the Suncounter would be handy to carry around.I am very disappointed with this product.

Enjoy the sun but do it safely!
If, like me, you love being out in the sun, you need to do it safely. This is a fairly basic UV monitor and timer which can be programmed with skin type and the factor number of any sun protection being used and provides a count-down timer and alarm of the time that is is safe to stay in the sun. Compared with other similar devices that I have and the weather forecasts, it appears to give a pretty accurate reading of the UV index but does not have the bells and whistles of some UV monitors - no clock or thermometer. (I have another similar but cheaper sun timer device from another manufacturer which dramatically underestimates the UV index and, in my view, is not safe to use - now to be consigned to the bin!)

Sturdy but light, easy operation
This suncounter is easy to operate. The case is small and light yet sturdy. It indicates how much more time you can stay in the sun as hh:mm and as a percentage of total time. When the intensity of the sun drops or increases you have to push a button to get a new measurement. It would have been easier if the measurement were continuous (but I cannot find a similar product offering continuous measurement/adjustment).Disadvantage: the alarm beep when your tanning time is up is very soft. If you've fallen asleep it won't wake you.

not accurate readings
Cheap gadget, not accurate readings, but probably that's what to expect for the price.instructions says the lens needs to face the sun directly, this will give reading that is twice higher than the actual. all i all, will give you some idea & that's all. The Metro weather office seems to have the most accurate UV index average value for the day.

Small and easy to carry.
I purchased this meter to monitor the power of the sun as I need to be careful of over-exposure, mainly during the midday period. The unit is small and can easily be carried around.Looking forward to giving it a proper trial this summer.

Handy meter
My father had malignant melanoma last year and he has found this product invaluable. It gives him an indication of the amount of time he can spend in the sun, based on the spf cream he puts on his face. Would thoroughly recommend! Excellent product.
