A window into the skills and techniques and strategies of watercolor painting by a master
Joseph Zbukvic completes paintings on a bridge/street, a waterfront and on a canal in Venice, Italy. It’s an atelier experience with a painter who teaches you how to view a scene, pick out elements to focus on and then progress using brushes and a light touch. I wish he offered a course (although he published a book - now out-of-print).

Joseph Zbukvic- Master Watercolorist
Perfect! Joseph's technique in Watercolor is beneficial to creating better painting habits. If you already know how to Watercolor, be ready to change old habits and embrace layering in Watercolor. Calligraphy brush work used to add wires, lamp posts and etc is so phenomenal!

Modern Master
Joseph Zbukvic is a master of watercolor, to learn about his technique is to learn from a modern day master. Really good at explaining what he does, what he thinks as he paints.

Good Demos
The demos are beautifully executed, but not very instructional. There is very little reference to atmosphere or mood. Buying the book is out of the question, of course.

A very good watercolor video
This is an excellent video which describes what to do and what is important to look for and see when composing a painting. The editing is good, but it doesn't get in close enough to show how to do the brush strokes. It is a video which can and should be viewed multiple times, pausing to practice. I have learned a lot, will share it with my friends and will enjoy it many times more. This is one of the best watercolor demonstration videos I have seen.

After reading his book and watching the DVD. It is easier to see his painting method and how he achieves the effects that he does.

Lessons from "Mr. Bead"
For anyone who has not taken a workshop from this master of the medium, this DVD and others in the series may be a bit challenging, for it is the secret of Joseph Zbukvic's technique to use the water as a means to an end, and not simply as an element of wetting the pigment. That said, this is the core of Joseph's technique in four marvelous demonstrations. In each location a vital technique is revealed with very little discussion of pigment, or mixtures, because they are irrelevant to what the master cares to share. It is, rather, most important to see how Joseph handles background, mid ground, and foreground, and the one stroke process of applying each.Do not expect clear cut formulas, precise steps, and "follow me" directions, but do expect sound principles of control, loading of pigment to water, and how to avoid the numerous pitfalls this medium is prone to. Upon your 50th audition, you will begin to "get it." That is what many pay thousands for, and few comprehend. This is a must buy if you seek the "Mood" in your watercolor paintings.
