Great color. Dries rapidly.
Outstanding, rich walnut color. Works exceptionally well for evening out the color difference between the heartwood and sapwood. You can apply it by hand on smaller pieces, but it dries so fast with an acetone reducer I wouldn't recommend hand application on large pieces. If you can use an HVLP spray system, I would recommend it for a much more even application. You can reduce with water to slow the dry time, but it will raise the grain. Overall, highly recommended for the great color.

Quality Product
Used Behlen products before... Excellent quality, very colorfast.. Keep in mind that alcohol based dyes dry very quickly and you need to plan your application before you start.

I used this stain on aspen and poplar. It soaked in so fast that the wood looked almost black. I had to sand it all off and use traditional min wax stain which highlighted the grain in the wood.

Not good for desired color
product is effectively black and very low viscosity allowing it to deeply penetrate the walnut wood making it appear black vs a desired brown color.

Not exactly what I expected
First off it does not come in that beaturiful clear bottle with fancy wood furniture printed on the label. It comes in a plastic white bottle with nothing but blue writing all over it, no pictures. Secondly, from pouring this stuff right onto wood or dabbing a paper towel with it, you have exactly 4 seconds to spread the stain before it dries hard. The bottle says it dries within 5 minutes. I guess their definition of 'within' is up for interpretation. Well, it dries so fast that if you didnt wipe with the grain, you will have a tic tac toe cross 'grain' due to the stain streaking and drying. I stained about 25% of an old rocking chair before I gave up.If I were to use this again, I would definitely dilute it in solvents first. The primary solvent listed on the bottle is Acetone, which you can pick up a gallon that stuff for 15 dollars. I'd say make a 1 part stain to 2-4 parts acetone. That should give me some more time to evenly distribute the stain before it dries or streaks on.The deep color is very nice where it worked (i.e. I wiped it quick enough that it stained with the grain), but I now have a cross stain on the seat of my wooden rocker that I cannot redissolve and fix. I would have to strip all the coating on this chair and do some light sanding to remove it, none of which I will be doing.I plan on staining a rocker of a friend of mine in a month, we'll see how my new approach of dilutiing it with acetone will work.

Like everyone else stated the stain gets absorbed immediately and you have to be carefull that you lay it evenly. The technique that I used was to lay the stain on thick and then sand it with 400 grit and apply two or three successive coats. The results were amazing and the clarity and depth were excetional considering the wood species (white oak) has great grain structure that needs stain to bring out the glory. I finished the piece with three coats of semi gloss min wax poly and the rubbed it out with Wool lube and 3 m hand glaze...It is exceptional in its color and depth. It will definitely be my go to for tinting and staining.

Beautiful stain
If you've only ever used ordinary oil stains such as the ones at your local home store, you'll appreciate the difference of these glycerin based solar stains. Excellent clarity, translucence, and quicker work time. Shelf life is also very good.
