Terrific hands free can opener re review at 150 days
UPDATED REVIEW STARTS HERE:- After 150 days service opening at least one sometimes two cans per day my Culinaire finally opened its 150th plus can on the same two Energizer AA batteries, I think this is incredible and for a high battery drain product and puts in perspective, two things, (1) just how good the Culinaire can opener is and (2) a tribute to the Energizer batteries. Totally Remarkable performance. One set of batteries 150 cans- all shapes and sizes.ORIGINAL REVIEW STARTED HERE:- When my faithful Russell Hobbs Gizmo quit on me after many years I was in a crisis only being able to use one arm.I looked at the Kitchen Mama, BangRui and JML hands free brands on Amazon along with their reviews and am deeply grateful to the Amazon community for replying my ‘Ask a question’ which I posted against each one. I settled on the Culinaire as was familiar with quality engineering and styling with this brand already.I have had it for 45 days and have opened at least one can per day and often two; so it has opened at least 50+ cans and this on using some Energizer batteries bought back in 2018. These same batteries have still got the power to cut through tin after tin; the engineering of the cutter and gear wheel must be fully maximised to function against battery drain and is power-wise, very, very impressive. The Culinaire is easy to settle on a tin with the blade below the tin lid rim, then just press the button and the Culinaire self rights itself and gets cutting. When it has done a full circle press the button again. The motor runs on for approx. 4 seconds as a safety feature to withdraw the cutting blade safely. DO NOT WORRY IT DOES STOP BUT NOT STRAIGHT AWAY! It has also done both ends of a rectangular corned beef tin, no problem. An efficient magnetic allows for lifting away of the tin lid. I have not had a problem with sharp edges. The Culinaire cutter cuts the lid away at approx 1.5-2mm below the lid rim so when removed there is an upstanding of cut metal around the circumference of the lid and of course the exposed can edge. One would not give these to the kids to play with but with daily good kitchen practice, are decidedly not dangerous. As the Culinaire works at this level just under the lid rim it cuts a thin ring of the paper label too which is not hard to miss and easily removed as the Culinaire works around. This hands free can opener is kitchen magic itself! and a big thanks to the Amazon Community for answering my ‘ask a questions’ and helping me to choose the right one. I’m here now to positively represent this brilliant can opener as has been a life saver to me.

Rather cool
A bit difficult to stop once it's gone all the way around but it's a rather cool thing and works well. I have fun watching it go round 😁

Very easy to use and great buy
Being left handed this can opener is a lifesaver for me. I always struggled with the handheld ones that you turn and didn't have room for the stand up electric tin openers so this one was perfect for me. You just place it on press the button and it goes. Wish I bought one years ago. So simple to use

AVOID!! This is dangerous...
After researching electric can openers, I bought this in Nov 2022 for my mother, who's finding opening cans harder these days. Amazon sent me one which had been returned by someone else: the packaging had been opened, which should have warned me. Anyway, I returned it and asked for a replacement and they sent a new one.Fast forward to two days ago, and our first time using it...we positioned it over a John West can of tuna, and I pressed the button. My mum and her friend watched. Nothing happened. Then I pressed it again, and it started working. Hooray! All was well and it got half way around. Then horror, the can opener veered off. It was no longer attached to the can and wouldn't stop. I pressed the button (which was pretty scary as I didn't want it to cut my fingers) and after a few goes, managed to stop it. I repositioned it back on the can and restarted it. The can opener sliced off the rest of the can lid. But then it kept on going, whirring around. And it wouldn't let go of the can lid. It was grim. I kept pressing the off button (there is only one button), but no joy. I tried to open the battery compartment to remove the batteries whilst it was whirring. But nope - it was having none of it. After about 30 seconds of further button pressing, it randomly stopped. We all exhaled and breathed a huge sigh of relief. I grabbed an Amazon bag from something that had just been delivered and put it (plus the can lid which it is still hanging onto like a limpet) inside. One hour later, I went to pick up the bag. And it felt HOT. Silent. But HOT. Fearing that the can opener would set on fire and explode the batteries, I took it outside and put it in the middle of the lawn, where it still is now (see the photos above). I couldn't put it in the outside bin, or keep it inside. At some point I'll check if it's cooled, put on some gardening gloves, put it in a box and take it to the dump to dispose of it safely.I wish I could send it to Culinaire so their product people can examine it. But I can't because it could start a fire and/or leak battery acid in transit. I've just called Amazon to request a refund, and to be fair, they've given me one. I don't know whether we got a bad one, or if this is normal. But I can safely say that my mum and I will not be trying electric can openers again. And her friend won't either. I hope this helps you in your search for can opening nirvana. This was 100% not it for us.

At last, one that works.
We have tried a couple of these small battery can openers. This is the first one that gets to grips with a can first go and then actually cuts the lid off.Cracking !

Very good alternative to the traditional Can Opener
The media could not be loaded. Great little Can Opener, very easy to use, ergonomic and lightweight. Takes 2 x AA batteries ( use Duracell) which so far have lasted 2 weeks, ongoing, takes a bit of getting use to as regards 'one touch' but it does work once you have gotten use to it. My only problem, as you see in the video, is stopping the gadget, sometimes 'one touch' is NOT enough and the magnet keeps the lids secure stopping you from cutting yourself once you get the opener to stop. All in all a good product for the price.
