Product is great; fulfiller provided near end-of-life product
Pretty simple. I love this product. When I received, I saw the shelf-life was extremely short.Someone clearing out old product. Maybe the sell-by dates should be made part of the equation here.

Really like and it's good for me
I had never tried either quinoa or red rice before and so was very pleasantly surprised. Let me start by saying that both red rice and quinoa are delicious and very good for you. The red rice gets its color from antioxidants that you also get in purple fruits and vegetables. It’s supposed to reduce inflammation and help you lose weight. (I don’t know how true that last one is, mind as I have yet to lose much weight.) Red quinoa is a complete protein that is rich in fiber and also contains anti-oxidants.The combination is easy to cook; you basically cook it as you would pasta. It takes about 15 minutes and it goes great with the main course. My husband and I have been eating it with coconut curry chicken and I really enjoy the slightly nutty taste the quinoa and red rice add to one of our already favorite main dishes. And it lasts a long time. This bag has lasted us two weeks and we’re not quite done. A bag half the size at Trader Joe’s is slightly more expensive.I recommend it.

I liked the nutty taste and wish it had more rice but I can always add my own.
I have never tasted, cooked or combined quinoa. Same can be said for red rice. However, I was game to give this a try. I love rice and buy it at the Chinese restaurants often. I cook pasta and soups often. So, here's my opinion:This had a texture that surprised me, sorta tasty, sorta bland. There's enough in this bag for a small army so I gave the directions and a baggy full to some of the people in the main dining room (I live in a retirement village) that still cook at home. I thought it should have more rice than it did in the bag so I shall add my own rice the next time. I love mushrooms and always add them to my Taco Soup. I think this would be good added to soups, also. I love wild rice and shall add some to that dish next time. When I cook most things it is just for me but we have 'pot luck' one Monday a month and I'm going to come up with a concoction using this for that dinner as this will feed a lot. If anyone knows a recipe that will feed lots, please let me know. All in all, I am glad I ordered this because I found a new food. I feel it would be better for me than some of the things I now fix with a starch. I shalllook for a quinoa cookbook on Amazon and might get lucky in that endeavor.

A bit tastier than plain quinoa and healthy too
I blow hot and cold on quinoa, sometimes eating it fairly often, sometimes going months without it. So I was intrigued by this product, which mixes it up with red rice and (prewashed!) quinoa. As far as taste, it's mostly quinoa (my bag had far less rice than is shown in the photo, but maybe it's all settled at the bottom). But the texture is a little chewier than plain quinoa and the taste a bit nicer, though I'm hard pressed to describe how. When I made it, there was some kind of dust in the package, even though the ingredients listed are only quinoa and red rice, and the dust got on the cookware. No big deal, but it may have affected the consistency, which was clumpier than plain quinoa. The preparation instructions were different from how I make quinoa, as well, which may have factored in--putting in more water than can be absorbed and draining it before serving.I used it under one of my go-to dishes--sauteed wild mushrooms with garlic and cilantro (my adaptation of the recipe with parsley on Epicurious, if you're curious--deelish, if you like mushrooms and garlic). And it worked great with that, perfectly offsetting the stronger flavors of the mushroom melange. It does seem as if it would be ideal in a pilaf, which I'll probably try next. There are FOUR POUNDS in the bag, which is an awful lot of quinoa for someone who doesn't cook it that often. All in all, this is a nice alternative to both plain rice and plain quinoa, but it isn't quite the new taste treat I'd hoped it would be. I'll be looking for more recipes as inspiration.

Good food
This brand tastes fresh and healthy. The resealable stand-up bag is easy to use and store and keeps it fresh. The sell-by date was about a year out when I got mine in early March, and it's still as good as it was when new. The flavor is subtle, with a distinct texture and body that the rice adds some variety to. I prefer it cooked with just a touch of toughness or chewiness left in some of it.I like to pan-roast it some before adding soup for liquid. I sauté garlic, onions, celery and some spices (no need for salt, which comes later in the soup) in an enameled cast-iron dutch oven (I use butter, but any oil would work), just for a couple minutes, not until fully cooked. Then I add the quinoa/rice mix and stir fairly often to keep it from sticking for five or ten minutes (depending on how patient I am). I can smell the sweetness while it's roasting. Then I add only the liquid from a suitable soup (I like Progresso chicken and whatever). I wait until it's almost done to add the rest of the soup. I like to cook it until the liquid is out, but it's good with any amount of liquid you please. This is pre-rinsed, but some people are more sensitive than others to any residual bitterness from the natural bitter coating in the wild grain. If it tastes bitter to you, rinse the quinoa/rice mix in a mesh strainer for a minute before cooking. (I don't rinse because it doesn't work as nicely with the pan roasting.)

Healthy alternative to regular rice
This cooked up pretty easily. Although the quinoa is pre-washed, you do need a fine mesh strainer once the quinoa and rice is cooked to drain the water. It is about as easy as quinoa could be.The quinoa and rice mixture has a very bland, subtle nutty flavor. I wouldn't eat it like a straight rice dish myself but have been pleased with the flavor when adding it to the ground turkey sausage, onion, diced tomato, etc blend for stuffed peppers. I'll try a few more recipes but I seem to like it best in Tex-Mex style of cooking. As far as health benefits go, this quinoa and red rice blend has 160 calories for a quarter (1/4) cup serving, 2g fat, 142g of Potassium, 31g total carbs (4g dietary fiber & 1g in Sugars) and 5g Protein. There's no sodium and no cholesterol.
