I recently found myself in the position of putting together a giant pumpkin growing contest as part of a 150 year celebration of a summer community in New England. I did have a landscaping company for more than a dozen years and I have a vegetable garden every summer but I've never grown pumpkins. I knew there had to be a lot to it. There IS a lot to it but Jason Johns' book is full of very valuable and interesting information so that even a novice CAN grow a big pumpkin if they follow his directions. We're still at the "brainstorming" level so I'll have to report back after October 2022. This is such an interesting endeavor! In any event this project should work out to be a wonderful community building exercise and great agricultural education for all involved.

Great book! Very informative! Lots of helpful tip on how to grow giant pumpkins!

I don't grow giant pumpkins and just wanted information on growing and harvesting pumpkins in general. While this book definitely focuses on growing the giants, there is also a lot of information that can be put to use by anyone growing any kind of pumpkins. I bought the book midseason and it answered the questions I had about what my pumpkins were doing and how to harvest them.

Because I have read other more comprehensive books on raising giant pumpkins,this book in comparison is a bit disappointing,as it doesn't include as many tips and photographs which I felt were important. For a beginner,this book is O.K. but it leaves much information untouched.

Great book. It's no nonsense, practical approach to growing the pumpkins. From tilling the soil to cutting off certain flowers to getting you, the ground, the vines all ready for what is about to happen. I'll plant the seeds this Spring but found this to be an invaluable tool to get me ready for my super pumpkins

This book is fantastic and I can completely recommend! We attempted to enter our village pumpkin competition last year and failed hopelessly but this year, after buying this book, have ended up with a huge pumpkin! All instructions are very easy to understand and follow. Brilliant book.
