Update hundred percent recommend this to others continuously will shred paper we haven't been able to stop it when I try to push it to stop it outstanding job 1000% Best shredder we've ever owned and we did a lot of research to find this oneThis was really hard in a real pain in the butt we looked around a lot and get a lot of reviews we bought this one based on the continuous use in the heavy duty running many people I've use this one and it doesn't overheat and runs along time without any issuesFeels like a good strong unit it's heavy seems well-made and it definitely cross cuts shreds the paper really well no complaints or problems Iit does exactly what it says and we are not over stuffing it or putting more in it just to test it it's a really good unit, if you do your homework you'll see that there's just a handful of units that are any good out there HSM is one of them they been around for a while and they been dealing with shredding paper for sometime and they make really good units and they seem to be continuous motors they can run without shutting down like a lot of the other ones do.Finding a good shredder was very difficult especially one that is continuous without shutting down after 15 or 20 minutes give or take like many of the other units that are out there we gave this five stars if anything changes will update we definitely recommend this to others We look at Amazon basics, Staples and fellows. fellows seems to come in pretty high compared to a lot of the other ones but we felt HSM had it a little bit better in the motor area based on our reviews and research that's what we found hopefully HSM will continue this solid product line to continue it into the future, if you read the reviews all the other machines to heat up after a short use of time and you have to wait for them to cool down on like this one If anything changes we will update this review we currently give it five stars and recommend it to others 100% over a lot of the shredders Just to update a little bit we really like this paper shredder 100% we're glad we did all the research I just hope it continues to work without any problems. Two words: Work Horse! This is not for your occasional two or three sheets. This is not for some small offices. But it is also not for taking on the big shredding firm either. If you or your staff shred enough that the shredding shuts down for a break. If you empty your shredder every couple of minutes, then this is the shredder for you. It will run continuously. The only stoppage you will get is when the bin is full. It will stop, sometimes in the middle of the stack. The light will come on alerting you to the full bin. The bin size is large compared to a standard home machine or small office machine. I took photos with a ream of letter size paper placed next to it and in the bin so you could get a real world size reference. Running it hard and feeding it non-stop will have the bin full in about 6-7 minutes (we timed it). The machine does have fans that cycle on and off to help the cooling. But if you run it hard, you'll get a break to empty it every 6-7 minutes. The machine is quite. It will get louder with use. However when you notice it getting noisy, clean and lubricate it. We use a vacuum to get out all the loose particles we can. Stuck pieces we can get to are removed with picks (if you want to go that far). Then lubricate the machine. For this model we vacuum from the top and from below (bin area). Lubrication can be done with lubricating sheets or machine lube. Gun lube also works well. Use liquid not grease/paste.Proof in the pudding. After receiving this machine, we shredded three pallets of paper. Each pallet was 4'x4'x3'. Each pallet was filled with smaller boxes (paper case boxes & bankers boxes). All packed tight. We ran the machine between 2 and 8 hours each day depending on available staff. We were able to knock out all three pallets in just about 2 weeks. We still use this shredder daily. It is still quiet enough to use while the person next to you is on the phone. I chews through paper, staples, paper clips, credit cards and CD/DVDs. Note that while it can run with staples and paper clips, I'm sure it would prolong the life if you did not run those through. The area around the mouth will get scratched up from staples and clips. Also of note, is the entry path is straight down. Much easier than feeding it through on an angle.I definitely recommend this work horse.

May 1, 2015I was tired of wasting time opening junk mail or feeding 2 sheets at a time with my Wal-Mart-special shredder. I would rather buy something overkill and run it 50% duty cycle than to bog a cheaper model down all the time. Purchased this with the intent of throwing anything and everything in it with no remorse. Works great, had built up a 6" tall stack of paper and unopened spam. Have heard some people discourage throwing plastic window letters or those with credit cards inside into a shredder, but I threw everything in and it ate it like a champ. Started to slow a bit when fed 20 sheets but it made it all the way through. You can feed 10-15 sheets no problem. Even has a little cooling fan that kicks on after cranking through paper for a while. This unit was around 15 pounds heavier than a lot of its similarly sized competition, which is the main reason I went with it. Pretty sure that weight in a unit like this is nearly directly proportional to the volume of steel inside- plastic components will hardly add up to anything. I think it is fair to assume this company went with steel componentry in a lot of areas where their competition opted for a cheaper material. It does seem like a sturdily built machine- it "inspires confidence" for whatever that is worth. Ps817c works as promised. It runs continuously, quietly, and reliably. No complaints so far after a few weeks of moderate use.

Works fine and VERY quiet. Come back in five years and ask me again then. This is our fifth shredder and first German made as opposed to PRC. None of them has lasted more than 18 months so far so get back to me.

This shredder is all that it says it is!!Quiet and very strong!! Feels great owning it for sure!! Far better than the gutless cheap box box deals!! Pay a little more and get a much better product!!Amazon saved me some $$ too!!

Great. Purchased due to continuous operation ability. Fan is not always on, only kicks on when needed, and is very quiet.
