It's a good idea to treat corns and calluses before you go to bed as you can rest your feet after. An ideal time to do a treatment would be after a bath. Soak your hands or feet in warm soapy water to soften the skin. Pat dry the skin thoroughly. Hands must also be dry to avoid risk of slipping over the handle and causing injury. Sit somewhere with good light. Use an old newspaper beneath the feet to catch the dead skin flakes that come off your feet. Hold the corn shaver firmly against the area to be treated with the blade side facing down. Start shaving from the edge of your calluses with a gentle pressure and sturdy shaving but slow strokes in one direction as used on a safety razor. As you draw the tool across your calluses and you will see flakes of dead skin tissue coming off. Repeat with light strokes until all dead skin is removed taking away small amounts at a time. If you feel pain during the treatment, it means you are applying too much pressure. Discontinue use if irritation or redness occurs. If you cut yourself, immediately wash the area and apply antibiotic ointment. If bleeding does not stop quickly call for medical help. Be careful not to take too much dry skin off as it is easy to get carried away. Stop shaving when you reach softer skin to prevent you feet getting sore and difficult to walk on. Remove the last hard layer with a foot rasp and smooth off with a foot dresser. Massage the treated area with petroleum jelly or rich cream / lotion to soothe the skin. The best thing to do last is to put on a pair of cotton socks or ones pre-treated with aloe and other soothing ingredients, and give your feet some rest. After-care: It is important that you keep a good foot care routine to address the underlying cause of the corns and calluses. Keep your feet naturally soft and smooth by moisturizing them with a good foot conditioner or balm twice a day and wear comfortable shoes with wide toe and low or flat heels as much as possible.
