A classic that belongs in every home.
Three little bears, one with a light one with the stick and one with a rope, go on the adventure through the spooky Old tree. This has been one of my favorite books to read, and always requested by the littles I have watched throughout the years. Simple story, not too scary, beautiful artwork and a story you can really put drama into. I purchased a few copies, originally I was going to just purchase them for my nieces who grew up with me reading this book to them, as baby shower gifts (It's hard to believe "my babies" are grown up .) but my husband added more for me to give to the kids moving out of my class. (They LOVED the gift, I had a few moms tell me how excited their children were to own the book and how excited they were to have a copy to read at home.) this is one of those books that can create a love for reading, wonderful bonding opportunity for parents and children. I can't wait to see my nieces reaction when she opens her present and sees a set of the books she loved as a child to read to her own little ones with this one on top.

Very helpful and amusing
I have used this book for my own children, and now for my grandson, to help them overcome fears of the night, along with the other Berenstain book "Bears in the Dark". It helps them to 1) realize that they're not alone in being afraid; it's a common thing. And 2) It let's them have fun and laugh at "the shivers" as they see how to use their imagination , returning home safely after some giggles and brave adventure. I suggest reading "In the Dark" first, followed by this one if you have a little one 'with the shivers' when it comes to bedtime. As always, these stories not only entertain, but are helpful tools for parents and caregivers to encourage growth in young minds.

"All with the Shiiiiiivvvveeerrrssss!!!"
My all time favorite children's book. When I get to the part where they have the shivers, I shake like crazy and my daughter loves it. One flaw (spoiler alert); when they get to the staircase, they call it a stair, not a staircase."Do they dare go up that spooky old stair?" At least make it plural "the stairs".Whatever though; it's still the best kids book ever.

Classic children's literature!
Twenty+ years ago I read this to my daughter nearly every night, (complete with sound effects of course!!) Now I am watching her read it to her son, with the same sound effects and a few extra to make it their own. Hopefully these books won't end up in the hands of the childrens literature book burners club! I would love for these books to survive long enough to see my grandkids read it to their kids.

Great for beginner readers
Reading this book to my kids growing up helped me teach them to read. It's fun but repetitive so they see some of the phrases over and over. Just brought the book to my 3 year old grandson and his dad still remembers it!

Childhood memories
When my brothers and I were kids my mom used to take us to the public library and let us pick out books. Almost every time we would all choose a book to take home, then one of us would run and find this book for our mom to read to us before we left. Every time, before the reading was over there would be a group of kids sitting around her listening with rapt attention to her rendition of The Spooky Old Tree. I have a beautiful nephew now who loves a good story, so I hunted high and low to find this book for my mom to read to my little man. One of the best purchases I've ever made on Amazon

Story passed down from Uncle to niece.
This was my youngest son's favorite book when he was a child. He is 36....Our grand daughter came to visit, his niece. She had me read it to her 3 times in one night. The book belongs to my son, who lives in Vegas.....I mailed it to him when his own son was born. I ordered another one so I would have one to read to her when she is here......It is now her favorite book!!! She loves reading it to Nana......Brings back a lot of memories

Classic
I read this book when I was young and I remember loving it. We pulled it out for my 3 year old nephew and he loved it so much we read it over and over again. He shortly had it memorized. I teach at a preschool for 2-5yr olds and I took it in to read it and it was, yet again, a BIG hit! all children love this story. As a child.... it's easy to follow along. As an adult... it's not one that you'll get sick of reading over and over again quickly.

excellent for little children and very young readers
Rather as Dr. Seuss did, the Berenstains wrote and illustrated books that have an immediate appeal for very young children - I have read them successfully to children as young as 20 months - and are also very effective as first or very early readers. This one is not quite as simple linguistically as 'Old Hat, New Hat' or 'Bears in the Night', but it works on the same principle - a very simple story, lively illustrations, some repetition and a happy ending. Three bears venture into the old spooky tree, greatly daring, and find out what lurks there. For the audience at which it is aimed it is excellent, and to those who have the pleasure of reading to very little people, it is a welcome addition to the library.

Spooky Old Tree
I bought this book years ago when my own children were small about 30 years ago. My son remembered the story and asked did I still have this book. I just had to buy it again and give him a copy as he loved it so much from all that time ago! Some kids just never grow up huh! Great book with clear pictures for children to follow. Now my grandson loves the book too. Fun reading. Arrived quickly.

My partners favourite childhood book
My partners favourite childhood book, his sister loved it too, so we bought one for his nephews birthday. Glad to say they were all excited. Little boy wanted to go to bed so he could read it as his bedtime story. Win win!
