I approached this book from a different point of view than I imagine most readers do. I have no intention of becoming a construction estimator, but instead wondered how much does it actually cost to create all these buildings around me? And when a contractor gives me a price for a job, how are the actually getting to that price?This book was perfect for those purposes. Drawing from decades of experience in the industry, the author breaks down step-by-step exactly what goes into estimating costs for a project and how the final price is calculated. I can also see how this book would be extremely useful for anyone who did want to get into estimating or project management as it gives advice on software solutions to use, and practical walkthroughs of exactly how to cost up any project in any sector.

For new to the construction industry, as well as experienced professionals looking to refine estimating skills. Written by a skilled tradesperson, estimator and project manager. Actionable steps for improving estimating processes. Shared trial-and-error experiences. Emphasis on the importance of detailed knowledge and data-driven decisions.

Wouldn't recommend it as it really is academic and very little practical use.So don't bother buying this book.Not even useful for a student

I'm reading this more from the perspective of a hopeful homeowner. I want to know more about the project management side of things and how estimates work, so I can discuss this with the professionals while they work. This book does a good job at breaking things down for me the average Joe. It explains how data driven decisions are made to come up with the estimate and talks through the project management tools used in a way I could understand.

This book has been written so simple and understandable to a lay person like myself on the subject. Personally I understand what to ask the professionals using effective communication methods on the subject as outlined in this book.A well recommended resource.

I maybe getting involved in construction albeit on a smaller scale than this detailed book/guide, but it be interesting and informative in this area, writ by someone who knows what he is talking about.
