Una edición extraña a modo de recopilatorio. Como ventaja tiene su precio dado que estos tipos están descatalogados totalmente. Un grupazo, muy recomendado.

タイトル曲が大好きで入手。だが曲数は少ないしライナーノーツも無し。それなら、と調べてみた。ま、長文に御付き合い下さい。お茶も出ませんが。Looking Glassはニュー･ジャージー出身の4人組ロック･グループ。メンバーはElliot Lurie（g）、Larry Gonsky（key）、Piet Sweval（b）、Jeff Grob（ds）（なかなかドラマーが定まらず、やっとJeffに決まったものの2作目ではJoe Dudeに変更。）高い演奏力からMotown、Rolling Stonesなどが契約を申し込んだが'71年秋Epicとサイン。グループ名をタイトルにした1作目は'72年春発売。Jeff Beck Groupの全米ツアーのスペシャル･ゲストに抜擢。音楽関係者に評判が良かったもののアルバムの売れ行きは伸び悩んでた。当時CBS/Columbia社長のClive DavisはBrandyを気に入りグループと契約したが、シングル発売にあたりメンバーはBrandy以外の曲を希望していた。ところがあるラジオ局がアルバムからピックアップしてBrandyを流したところ大反響だった。Cliveは自身の信念を確信しシングル発売。宣伝をせずとも'72年8月首位になった。CliveはSwitchboard Hitという言葉を用いている。レコード会社が特に宣伝もしないのにどこかの小さなラジオ局が取り上げたら評判が良く、リクエストの電話が殺到し、スイッチボード＝局の交換台の電気がクリスマス･ツリーのように点滅し始める。それがやがて全米に広がり、大ヒットになるということだと言う。（Cliveの自著「Inside The Record Business」より)そんな大ヒットを放つもTOP 40ヒットは他にJimmy Loves Mary-Anneのみ。Brandyの作者でありソウルフルな歌唱も魅力的なElliotは'73年2作目発表後脱退、ソロに。#3:Highway To Hollywoodはその後Brendan Harkin、Michael Lee Smithが加入後のシングル。ちなみにジャケットの5人はBrendan、Michael、Piet、Larry、JoeでElliotはいない。酷い！2イン1も出てるのでそちらの方をお勧めはしますが#3はこちらのみ。Elliotの'75年ソロ作（Epic）も聴いてみたい。グループはその後Starzとなる。ギョーカイのドン:Clive Davisは'74年Aristaレコードを設立。Barry ManilowのMandyがAristaにとってもBarryにしても最初のヒットで、かつNo.1（'75年1月）となった。Barryはデビュー･シングルにバラードが選ばれたのを不満に思ったがCliveの信念がここでも。ちなみにMandyの原タイトルはBrandy。Looking Glassと同じ曲名なのでCliveが変更させた。※故福田一郎氏の文を参考にさせて戴きました。洋楽の魅力を教えていただき感謝してます。

Good album but you will find only Brandy was produced in that style of music. The rest of the songs are good but a lot different.

Most people are familiar with the song "Brandy." But to my mind "Jimmy Loves Mary-Ann" is a far better song, melodic and meaningful. Both songs are blockbusters, but the rest of the material here is not far behind. This group should have been far more successful than they were. You can't go wrong with this purchase.

Brandy is the best song on the CD, and it is a nice CD.

Fine item, fine service, fine seller! Highly recommended.

Brandy and Jimmy Loves Mary-Ann are two spectacular songs. They are worth the whole price of this CD. They had better be. The rest of the album is worthless. There is not one memorable song on the rest of the album. But, so what, I've listened to these two songs about 50 times and they are beautiful. I know that so-called "one-hit wonders" is a common pattern in pop music. But, how could any songwriter have two musical ideas as outstanding as these, and then find himself with nothing more to say?

Really loved Looking Glass back when I was in high school and it still works. The recording is clear and the price right.

I love #1, 2 and 10, I love Brand by looking glass and it is hard to find. The CD does the trick.
