A rare insight into Sri Lanka’s cricket from a ringside seat
A devoted fan’s point of view of the game, who seems to have real insight into the workings of cricket, and of course Sri Lankan cricket in particular. With a ringside seat throughout the years of Sri Lanka’s dramatic rise and great march to prominence, his passion for the game shines through on every page.Sri Lanka’s accomplishments, the triumphs and failures on the pitch and the ruthless presentation of contentious goings-on off it, especially with the governing bodies, in parallel with the story of the country’s turbulent domestic politics; Winds Behind The Willows is a fascinating read.Entertaining and informative, it tells the story of Sri Lankan cricket in the context of the world game. I had a laugh at the sub-heading, “Initiatives by most administrators purely for fans’ benefit”, followed by a big question mark!Very readable, the hallmark is its simplicity and clarity. A memoir, part encyclopaediac, part travelogue, part lament for the step-motherly treatment of fans. A must-read book for all sports fans.
