Until Dawn (PS4)

It's extremely rare for me to essentially finish a game this fast (Barely two days). But the way Until Dawn is structured you'll find it hard not to sweep through it in few sittings. And that's far from a criticism of the game, it's just that the way the game is laid out it is designed to keep you on your toes.Plot summary: Until Dawn follows the fortunes of eight friends, who meet up one year after a tragedy, naturally at the location of said tragedy. And of course, things don't go swimmingly for them as the horrors of the mountain setting become abundantly clear.Until Dawn is essentially a hybrid of Resident Evil (fix/tracking camera), Heavy Rain (few controls, choices, QTEs), and every teen slasher horror movie you've ever seen - and to its utter credit it does it all extremely well. Visually, if not astounding (I'm used to PC-level graphics), it is very good and sets the tone impeccably - weather effects are impressive and the environments are atmospheric. The model visuals are reasonable from a distance and exceptional up close - the realism of the actors is very effective.The acting is excellent - can't be flawed, and the sound/music/ambience is truly top notch. Now, as to why I finished it quickly: basically this IS a horror movie. It looks like one, feels like one, and is structured to grip you on first playthrough. After all, you don't stop watching a movie after 20 minutes for a break, and after each episode here you're compelled to keep going. This, in every sense, is playing a horror movie, and it does that brilliantly.The story is also extremely good. Certain aspects might require a suspension of disbelief, but then that's the very essence of horror.And the game structure is good too, and tells you a lot about yourself. Quick decision and choices decide the outcome - cause and effect, and it's done absolutely wonderfully. One thing you do in one chapter will affect a scenario in a later one - quite directly as well - as such your choices define who lives and dies, and the way the chapters unfold makes your personality define those outcomes. I learned a lot about myself from the outcome, and it didn't surprise me.There is one drastic flaw, and they added the flaw deliberately to create tension: you can't run! You can't even jog. You can only 'quick walk', which is a parody of all movies where the dude walks when he really should be running. Well, this is the same. It just feels silly when you know you're in danger and your character just walks a bit faster!That aside I can't really fault this game, it's a high-quality production and the closest yet to an interactive horror movie where you decide how it ends.

Until Dawn is a brilliant game. If you're into horror games and alike you will most definitely love this.It's a new take on the Horror genre, that I've not really seen before. You choose options on how to play the game, whether you want to run or hide, barricade or escape. You will choose on what the character does. This makes for interesting game play, as you have to constantly be on alert and think about what you're doing. What makes this even better though is the 'Butterfly Effect' which they've put in this game. Every choice you make, even if it seems a small one, will affect what happens in the game, which ties in with the real life theory of the 'Butterfly Effect' This can effect things a long time into the game, and you will think 'Oh if I did that differently, that that would've happened!' which really mixes up the gameplay and makes it stand out from other games. It's really interesting to view each effect and see what has changed from it. This also means you can replay this game over and over, as there are hundreds of possibilities. There's also tonnes of trophies to collect, which if you're an avid trophy collector like me, it gives even more reason to play this game again.The game is great at pulling you in, it really engages you. I was completely riveted from the first time I put it on, as the story is rich and really expands, and the characters feel so real, you can relate to them. You will grow to love them, which really adds to the experience. It's like in a sense watching a movie, but you're interacting! Anything can happen, shocking or strange! So you will really feel connected to the characters throughout the game. The horror sense is great, as it builds up suspense really well. You will be constantly walking around watching your back, not knowing what's going to come next. There are lots of creepy moments and jump scares, and it mixes this up really well. I recommend playing in dark with headphones to get the most out of this.Music and graphics wise the game really excels in this part. The music is great, and really sets the tone of the game, from eerie music for the dark silent woods to high tempo music in the intense scenes. The music blends really well, and makes the atmosphere. The graphics are incredible, really detailed down to every little bit. The characters look completely real and you can see the emotion in their faces when there's been a scare, or they're happy or worried.I can't think of many negatives for Until Dawn. One thing could be the movement as this can be annoying at times as it doesn't always move the way you want to, but this is only minor and will be forgotten about. However with a positive for the controls, you can interact with a lot of things, which adds to the realism. There are some great QTE'S added in, Quick Time Events. This is where you have a couple of seconds to quickly click a button, Triange or Circle for example. This really adds to the intensity of some scenes, and really puts you into the characters shoes. You have to be on alert while playing this, as the buttons only last for seconds, but it's a great addition. There's also a 'Keep Still' added into this, where you have to keep your controller completely still. This makes it really realistic as if you're hiding or anything similar, you have to keep completely still, like real life. There's some great scenes in the game where the 'Keep Still' mechanism really makes the scene. It really pulls you into the game and makes it even more immersive.All in all I can promise you will literally not want to put this game down. I had to somehow tear my eyes away from the screen as you can get lost with it, and hours just fly by. You could easily finish this in one sitting as it keeps you so interested. When you're not even playing you'll think about it, wondering if you made that right choice and what did it affect. It's also great in that you can just close the game down and it starts off right where you quit the game! Which is really smooth and adds to the whole movie interaction vibe.This is a thrilling, gripping, immersive ride, and is the next generation of games. I recommend you pick this game up, and hope you enjoy it as much as I did! I'll be playing through for a second time already as I'm that hooked!

La entrega del producto fue excelente, llego en el plazo establecido y se encontraba sellado. Lo compre al vendedor Top Gamer. El juego es muy bueno, es de suspenso, si te gustan los juegos de acción, este no te va a gustar. Es un juego de terror o suspenso tipo "Drama interactivo" Basicamente una pelicula interactiva si lo quieren ver así, pero la vdd es que te atrae mucho la historia, cada decision que tomas afecta el futuro por lo que es un juego que debes de terminar varias veces si quieres saber que hubiera pasado si en lugar de tomar la decisión A tomas la B. En resumen recomiento bastante la compra.

Audio inglese, sottotitoli italiani.Da giocare la notte, con le cuffie o lo stereo, isolati dal mondo.La tensione è tanta e a volte fa prendere spavento.Grafica superba, i personaggi hanno le sembianze fedeli degli attori che si sono prestati. L'unica cosa è che qualche personaggio ha dei movimenti bacchettoni, diciamo che qualche ragazza cammina come se sia rimasta troppo a lungo seduta su diciamo... una scopa.Il controllo con il pad consegna un'esperienza diversa dal solito visto che usa il giroscopio. Fico!A ruota si utilizzano tutti i protagonisti della storia e, in base alle scelte fatte, si finisce con tutti o uno soltanto (...il mio caso!). Quindi storia e finali diversi di volta in volta.Un must have per gli appassionati delle avventure grafiche.
