Darkness Lurks (Darkness Trilogy Book 1)

Seriously omg, half way through this book I felt like I was having a hard time breathing. I was also on edge and felt jumpy and paranoid over everyone. I don’t know if it had anything to do, with reading it late at night, but it sure got to me. To me I felt like it was a horror movie and instead of watching it, your reading it. Seriously I’m in shock and speechless, not to mention the ending. THE ENDING!!! Why just why? Both characters Emily and Sethare great including, Seth’s partner Garret. The closeness they have is really something special.The detective’s eyes flickered over to Seth’s, then back at me. “Okay, I’ll get them to run this picture and see what we come up with.” I let out a long breath I hadn’t realized I was holding. “Give me a few days. This isn’t Criminal Minds. We can’t do it instantly.” “Yeah… yes, okay.” I nodded. “Thank you, Detective.”I don’t know how this author does it, this book is that good, I could see it as a movie. Again I’m speechless and don’t know what else to say. It’s hard not to say anything without giving anything away with this one.There’s just one thing I will say, and that is out of everyone there is one person I don’t like other than the nasty scum of a stalker and that is, Emily’s mother. She’s not the best and I don’t know if it’s just me, but I feel like there’s something else about her that’s not right. Hopefully I’m wrong and I’ll just have to keep praying. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see, when I start the next book. Which is like right now lol. I don’t think I can wait another minute. So anyways if you didn’t get it this is that good of a book and you should be reading it now, seriously don’t wait. Trust me you won’t be disappointed.

Please don't buy this book - unless you have time to read all 3 in this series!!! I bought this book, started to read it, couldn't put it down and the next thing I know, it's the middle of the night. As I came to the end, I sat up in bed, ran to my computer and had to quickly buy book 2!! Talk about "edge of your seat" stories!! So, again a warning, don't start reading this unless you will have the time to read all 3 books!!!

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. I never even read the synopsis. I pre ordered it because I loved JL Drake's Broken trilogy. This book was nothing short of fantastic! It sent me right down a thrilling, suspenseful spiral! I kept finding myself with goosebumps, chills down my spine, and that eerie feeling that had me looking over my shoulders even though I was only lying on my bed. The romance in between was enough to send me into shock! Her antagonists are pure perfection. Emily, the heroine, is super brave so I definitely adore her. So many amazing and creepy feels! This story was more than 5 star worthy just as I knew it would be! Book two needs to be here like yesterday!

Romantic Suspense is my top favorite genre, and let me tell you: J.L. Drake NAILED IT with this series. There’s passionate romance, action, suspense, mystery…everything necessary to keep me GLUED to my Kindle, turning the pages in dire need of more. If you’ve yet to read this genre, trust me, J.L. Drake is the author you want to start with. Darkness Lurks is a fantastic and enthralling novel you need to pick up! “I’m so scared he’s going to take you from me.”Anyone with a brain could tell Seth and Emily were both in love with each other, but since Seth always kept Emily at arm’s length, Emily had given up on the hope of having something more with him. Mind you, Seth had his reasons. You see, Emily was being stalked and it seemed like her stalker, a creepy man named Lasko, was always one step ahead of everyone. It’s as if he knew their next preventive move. Anything and everything Seth and the rest of the guys tried to keep Emily safe, did not work. Lasko was always there. Did I mention he was creepy?Seth tried to not give into his feelings for Emily. He did. He tried. Really. But he also failed, and boy was I happy to see that happen! It only made their relationship that much better. The fear he felt for Emily was beautifully written. There was NO doubt how much he LOVED Emily.Emily had already gone through SO much in her life. Losing her dad whom she was very close with and then, having to live with her snotty mom (who could NOT care less about Emily), all to have a dangerous man following her every move. Sheesh!! She needed some good in her life. She needed Seth.“…don’t want to lose you.”There are a lot of page-turning events in this book that will keep you hooked. At least, they did me. Suffice it to say that this book is a MUST read and one of my favorites for this year. Seriously. I was fully engrossed from beginning to end and had no problem at all envisioning the scenes as they unfolded. J.L. Drake did a wonderful job writing this book. The amount of detail was perfect – enough to allow the reader to see clearly everything unfold, and yet not too much to make me want to skim. Now, okay….you will need to have book 2: Darkness Follows handy because this one ends in quite the cliffhanger… Don’t let the ending stop you. TRUST ME. FIVE STARS!!!

Emily peaks the interest of a psycho stalker but has two best cop friends, Seth and Garrett, to help her out. Seth and Emily have been in love with each other for awhile but both of them are to scared to act on it. If your looking for suspense and romance with a touch of creepy then this is the book for you.

I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book and let me tell you, I was blown away. The story had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Seth was a great character and I really like Garrett and can't wait to see what his story will be later. The only thing I hate is having to wait till Sep for the next part. I know the wait will be worth it though. This was a great beginning to the series and can't wait for more. Jodi has pulled me in with this one as she did with her Broken series. I read this in one day. Now I need to go re-read it since I read it so fast!!!

Great story. Loved the characters, gripping storyline with a cliff hanger. But the next book is out already. However, I've got to say that Emily is very much the damsel in distress. While I do like the men to be heroes and save the day, I found Emily over the top wimpy and it was quite irritating at times. I also thought it was very Silence of the Lambs at times which was even referenced at one point. There were quite a few errors but not so many to put me off. All in all, I really did enjoy the story and it kept me in suspense and guessing right till the end. I will definitely buy the next book, and hope to see more from the other characters too. I did really like this book.

I sat down with this book and was so captivated I read it in one sitting! 3 and a half hours later I was desperate to know what was happening to Emily! What a really good read. Characters who I loved and a hot romance between Emily and Seth. Yum! I loved the whole story. Poor Emily has been stalked by some nutter and has a nasty run in at the petrol station with him. The stalking intensifies and it is a race against time to protect her. Dam the cliffhanger but I have a feeling that book 2 will be just as good! Cannot wait!

after reading broken trilogy and the devil's reach, i wanted to read this series too. i loved the darkness and suspense. this author gives you the feels, like your in the story and you can feel those eyes on you. great read

I was given an Arc for a honest review.What a rollercoaster of a read.It will have you sitting on the edge of seat it is suspenseful ,gripping ,creepy and Lasko and his pitbull Adler are scary as hell.Lets not forget the hot sexy officers of Orange PD Emily is one lucky girl to have Seth and Garret as friends unkown to her Seth is really in love with her and will do anything to protect her.I need book 2 now this is most definitely a must read.

These books have definitely got me hooked i didn't think another one could get me like cole and Savannah's story but omg I'm not going to survive xx
