great book
I have purchased this for my little nephew and he hasn't seen it yet but I am self-assured he will enjoy looking at the illustrations and one day reading the text. It's a great book for a mythological mind.

Great for teens
I had this book in school when I was a teen and recently re bought it as it makes the myths so accessible to young people (I'm a teacher) and has wonderful illustrations.

not as good as i had hoped
i am disappointed...the illustrations are not "superb"...the monsters are truly monstrous, but the humans, the demi-gods and the gods are sketchy, stiff, awkward and poorly drawn and painted...the stories are brief, dry and told in a pedestrian and bland language...there is no poetry, majesty or depth here...the older book by the d'Aulaires is better, even though their gods and godesses are mostly blonde and blue-eyed, like a charter tourist group from the north, but at least they look alive...i see that the Evans book is recommended for "game-players"...oh well...says it all...
