Testors F4U Corsair Quick Build Aircraft Model Kit (1:73 Scale)

An okay simple model for kids or beginners. But, it really needs to be glued like any standard model. Overall external detail is fair, though it has issues for experienced modelers. Landing gear doors are molded closed, no option for gear down. No problem, as I usually build aircraft models with gear up. No engraving for tailwheel doors, so I used an engraving tool to make it. No external ordnance or droptanks. The 20mm wing guns are nicely molded, not overly heavy. Panel lines are heavily and deeply recessed. Radio Mast is too close to the overly thick canopy - the canopy would have no room to slide open - I repositioned it, eliminating the "T" shaped mast. Interior cockpit detail is pretty fair, better than some big name kits in this scale. Painting really makes it pop. The engine is well molded but oddly offset at an angle - the magnetos should be at the top, not to one side.No mention in instructions about overall dark blue painting, as they intend it to remain in the molded color. I painted it the correct dark Navy blue. This model has features ofvseveral different variants - F4U-4, F4U-5 and AU1. I am considering it as a Korean War era F4U-4B.There are two sets of decals, one for a WWII plane and one for a post-WWII plane.The model includes a black plastic stand.Properly built with glue and fully painted, it looks fairly good as a display model. It is rugged enough for some careful play, no rough treatment.

This is basically a piece of trash. Stay away from purchasing it. Advertised that it can be put together in 15 minutes. There is no way an 8 year old can put it together in 15 minutes. The pieces are very small and keep falling off. It is advertised that no glue is needed. I was helping my grandson put it together. Finally, after 30-40 minutes of desperation, I gave up because the small pieces kept falling off. Had to get my instant glue to keep it together so my grandson could hold it at least. This is a junk product. Don't waste your money.

For a small scale model it was easy to put together and looks sharp. Excellent for beginners and advanced modelers
