Does What It Says & Great Value
For various reasons, real plants and I don't get along and I don't have any in my aquarium to absorb nitrates. I have nitrates in my tap water of 35-40ppm, and as my biological filter only adds to that, I have a constant battle on my hands. Having tried things like Tetra Easy Balance, which sort of works, but is quite pricey, I came across nitrate removal sponges. Like everything else fish related, you can pay a fortune for them, so I decided, at this price, this one was worth a shot. The overall sheet area is probably equivalent to 1 1/2 sheets of A4 paper. Given that my filter only needed a piece 6 x 5.5 cm, a sheet will last ages, even with the recommended replacement after 2/3 weeks. It's easy to cut with a pair of kitchen scissors too. Does it work? Well it has been in for around 24 hours, and I ran a check with an API liquid test kit just to see if there was any improvement. The nitrate levels are down to somewhere between 10-20ppm (the readings on the colour chart between the two are quite similar to my eyes), but at least a 50% drop in any case. So although I wouldn't normally review a product so early, I don't think that I can expect any more of it.

Great value
A very handy and economical way to buy this as it can be cut to fit several different filters.

This product doesn't appear to work.
I would love to be proved wrong about this but having used the nitrate filter for a week in my All In One Filter Pump and measured the Nitrate levels before using it and after one week, it appears not to work. I filter the Nitrates out of my tap water before it goes in the pond and I use API Nitrate testing kit periodically to check on the Nitrate levels but alas, alack, this product made no difference. I wish it did, as Nitrate levels in my 400 litre tank/pond are a bloody nightmare and I spend 3 hours a week every Friday doing a big water change and filter clean. If anyone out there has any advice or think that I'm doing something wrong I'd be very pleased to hear from them. I'm desperate to find a way to reduce the Nitrate levels. I've got Pothos plants growing hydroponically in my pond to absolutely no avail. I keep my fish healthy and happy but spend hours doing water changes in rain or shine.

Disappointing.
I cut a piece to run inside my Interpet CF2 filter. In short it did nothing to my level of nitrates.I guess its possible there wasn't enough surface area or the flow rate was too high.Since theres no mention of the required size or flow rate in the description one would assume it doesn't matter.Either way it was a waste of money.
