Inside the bag is a solution of sodium acetate that is super cooled below its rather "warm" freezing point of 54 Degree. Snapping the disc causes the liquid to become a solid and brings the sodium acetate up to it's freezing temperature. It will reach about 54 Degree (130 Degree) This is about as hot as the hot water in your faucet. Aside from being a convenient source of heat, these heat packs demonstrate a unique exothermic chemical interaction that produces heat through the process of crystallization. Inside of the sealed pouch is a saturated solution of sodium acetate and a small metal snap disc. Simply "snap" the disk inside the pouch with your fingers. How long do they stay warm? - Hand Warmers: 20 to 30 minutes, Waist Wrap: 60 to 90 minutes, Neck & Shoulder: 60 to 90 minutes (May vary slightly depending on environment) If you need it to stay hot even longer, just wrap it up in a towel, under a blanket, under some clothes, etc. You might get double or even sometimes triple the heating time this way. To reset the packs, boil them in water until crystals turn liquid state, then allow to cool to room temperature before reusing. Recommended boiling time: Hand Warmer : 5-10 minutes, Waist Wrap: 15-20 minutes, Neck/Shoulder : 15-20 minutes 24"x12"x2"
