Must use cheese
I used cereal at first, but it was too light so the mouse kept stealing it without setting it off. used cheese on day 3. RIP 🐀

Job Done.
This little SOB could have lived out his life in comfort had he not kept running across the room when there were people present. We got six of these traps. They are easy to set - they don't have the risk of snapping your fingers - and they have a convenient hole for the bait. Before they arrived, I put out a tiny piece of Parmesan cheese and it was gone the next day. I put three of these traps out with a variety of cheeses but nothing was taken. Strangely, there was little evidence of mice droppings.Somebody said to use chocolate or peanut butter, so I stuck a piece of chocolate in the bait hole of each trap and topped with Jif. Two nights still nothing. I suggested it was a ghost mouse but my daughter reminded the cheese had been taken so it was real. As the man of the house I was failing, so my wife decided to clean out the pantry. Eureka! She found where the little cuss had been living well on rice and marshmallows and leaving lots of little black pellets. She really cleaned things up, and so after depriving it of its food source, I set all six traps, plus a common Victor-type trap.Next morning: Bingo! Our house is very tight, and we think this mouse must have run in when the door was propped open, but we'll leave the traps out for awhile just the same.Moral of Story: Clean up your house and get rid of any hidden food! The mouse will come to your bait then. Note the bait hole in my picture is empty - it popped out when the trap snapped.Anyway, good product.

Work great!
Theses traps work great. I already caught 3 rodents. 1 mouse and 2 voles, in less than 24 hours. Pretty impressed and easy to use.

Leaves something to be desired.
Based on all the positive reviews I had high expectations for these traps. When they arrived my enthusiasm peaked. I immediately set two and waited. The following morning the bait cups were both empty but there were no mice corpses to be found. On trap was sprung and the other was not. I can only assume that this indicated two different causes of failure. I am used to mice stipping the bait without triggering the old Victor style traps. My theory is that we are dealing with field mice which are a much smaller breed that migrates into our home every year as soon as the corn is cut. Using the older style trap I have developed a highly successful technique to overcome their super stealth. First I lubricate the trigger with bacon grease. Next, I tie a small loop of black tread aound the bait keeper and bait the trap with peanut butter, taking care to make sure the tread is well coated. The mice just can't resist tugging on that little loop, and when the spring snaps the kill bar, the mice are perfectly positioned for immediate death. I will be trying to rig a similar solution onto these newer traps. If that is successful, I will revise this review. I really want to like these traps, they are very well constructed and much easier to set and empty than the older version. It would be nice if the trigger release had some level of adjustability. As it is the release is very stable so it is super easy to place the traps without false triggering, but I would prefer dead mice to all the lovely features on this "improved" design. (Update) I reset the traps last night. This time, I lubricated the trigger release mechanisms will a little cooking oil. Both traps caught mice. I upgraded my rating accordingly. Considering all the detailed instructions that are included with these traps, failure to mention this necessary step deserves a one star deduction. I would still recommend these over the "heritage" design.

Consumer Beware! Bad Mouse Trap
EDIT: the company reached out to me and offered me $20 to delete my honest review. Keep this in mind when considering this product. This product is garbage. I have bought these traps as well as another competitor. I put them both out, same bait same time. The other trap on amazon is up 5 mouse to zero on these traps!Mice will climb on take the bait and leave. This trap never snapped even with a mouse standing on it eating peanut butter.

Best mouse traps ever
We have tried the Victor wooden mouse traps and the Tomcat plastic mouse traps. The mice kept taking the bait without setting off the trap. I was getting frustrated by the wiley mice. So I searched Amazon for the highest rated mouse trap and came across these. The mice had been getting into food on my kitchen counters. That night we had dinner and cleaned up the kitchen. The last thing we did before leaving the kitchen was to set three of these traps on two counters. My husband and I no sooner sat in the living room to watch TV when we heard a snap. Sure enough, 10 minutes after leaving the kitchen, we caught a mouse. The next morning we had caught another mouse. There have been no more since then. The bait cup is designed a little differently in that the mouse has to fully stand in the trigger to reach the food in the bait cup. The trap is very easy to set and it is very sensitive to catch even the smallest mouse. These traps work and I highly recommend them.

Best mouse traps I've ever used
I've tried all different things for catching mice, including some 6,000 volt electrocution trap which never worked, those roller/bucket traps, etc. I had finally gone back to the old snap traps, which still work but sometimes the smell of a dead mouse makes the subsequent mice steer clear of the trap. However, this trap hasn't seem to have this problem so far, maybe since it's made of plastic so the death smell may not soak in as well. The dead mice also just slide off when you upon it up over the garbage. These are also much easier to set, and now my wife can set it herself, saving me of a lot of trouble. Now I just have to empty it for her, and she'll reset it herself. She was really upset because a bunch of mice got inside her desk and ate all of her chocolate, but I had just ordered these, so I was able to run downstairs and bring these up to her, and now she is happy with the mice all dead (and I bought her some new chocolate).

Do not but - completely useless.
Baited and set 4 traps, 4 nights consecutively. Each morning bait was gone and the traps had not sprung, apart from 1 on day 3, but alas no mouse in trap. Resorted to good old wooden traps, same bait, same location - 7 mice in 4 days, nothing more to say.

Would work on mice but NOT rats
The product is advertised for rats but I've set the traps and they have all gone off with no capture of a rat that's taken up residence in my girlfriends car

Worked on first night
Set up six traps in garage. Used peanut butted in middle bait area. Caught and killed three mice. I think one trap did go off and did not catch a mouse. I think one trap had its peanut butter eaten and did not go off. So that means 3/6 worked, 1/6 did not function, 1/6 fired and missed, and 1/6 was untouched. Overall, I am happy with the performance. From videos online, best to use these traps with the kill area facing a wall or corner so the mouse has to really go onto the trigger and release the spring/bar. The 1/6 traps that "missed" was not facing a wall... go figure.

Brilliant- caught two mice in the first two days of use- so much easier to bait and set and less dangerous than the old mouse traps
