Love this classic activity!
So excited to find this! It is exactly like the one I had as a child, just brighter colors and a lot more pattern templates. It's a great activity for kids to practice following visual pattern guides and to create their own. Others have mentioned that it is too tight for all the pieces to fit or that the pieces don't stay in place. As you work your way toward the middle, you have to hold down the edges of the tray to keep the pieces from shifting. Then for the last few, just gently press on the underside of the tray with one hand and it will loosen the pieces enough to slip in the last two or three. It does take a little practice, but the result is a nice, precise design that can even be held upside down without falling apart. My 4 year old needs a bit of help holding the tray/pieces steady and prefers to do his own designs, but my 6 year old can complete the patterns on his own.

I bought this for my granddaughters, ages 9, 11, and 13. It really was a hit! They love it! It fosters their creativity and is fun at the same time!

Reliving my youth...
I had one of these when I was a kid. This was pretty pricey...maybe I should have waited until around black friday to order it lol. Anyways, I did manage to find a used Vintage one from 1989 called Magic Mosaic on ebay and bought it too as it has different colored pieces. My son has since stolen my toys to play with lol

Students loved it
The mosaic puzzle worked great! My students loved working out the puzzle and coming up with new designs. I just wish it came with a better way to store the pieces.

It's part of our "fun box" --which is a toy chest filled with games and activities that I expect them to choose and do whenever
I ordered this toy for my 7 year old boy and girl twins. It's part of our "fun box" --which is a toy chest filled with games and activities that I expect them to choose and do whenever they feel bored, need to wait for a few minutes while I'm on the phone, or whenever they feel like taking a break from playing with one another in the evenings after homework or on the weekends. In order to find its way into the fun box, a toy or game cannot operate on batteries, make sounds, flash lights --or in any other way be so dazzling that it dwarfs the child's imagination, limits open-ended play or turns the child into a captive audience. This mosaic game qualifies. The toy itself is very engaging and will help your child practice pattern recognition, exercise fine motor skills (because the pieces are relatively small and need to fit precisely against one another) as well as allow them to make use of their executive function and tolerance to frustration (because the patterns are not always as easy to put together as they may have expected, so they may need to start all over again). My son likes it a lot and plays with it at least twice a week (usually for about an hour). It's on regular rotation along with Rush Hour from Thinkfun (which I recommend without any reservations). My daughter hasn't taken to it at all, but this may be because she's going through a phase where she likes making up stories that involve characters and narration and this particular toy doesn't exactly lend itself to this kind of play. If I had gotten this toy as a way to practice geometry related skills and asked her to complete some of the patterns, I suspect she could do it (without being entertained by it) but she has chosen not to use it recreationally.I subtracted one star purely for esthetic/"mechanical" reasons. I think the pictures of the game make the game look better. In person, the colors of the pieces are duller and the game pieces themselves feel cheap (even for plastic). They are also somewhat difficult to fit against each other (especially toward the end of the game) in a way that feels less like an issue of acquiring better fine motor skills and more like something that could be improved if the pieces themselves were made out of a better quality of material. Overall, if you have a child who enjoys pursuing the completion of a pattern, likes to manipulate shapes, deals adequately with minimal amounts of frustration and has good fine motor skills then I definitely recommend this toy. I also highly recommend it if you feel your child needs help/practice in any of the above mentioned areas (although, then, it may feel a bit more like an extension of school work and less like a fun toy!).
