Out of the all the mechanical pencils I have collected over the year this is currently the most solid pencils I have. Pure Class. Der Beste.

The coolest mechanical pencil
The 844 is beautifully made, and the mechanism works great. As a writer using mechanical pencils for hours each day, I find this Caran D'ache 844 to be delightful. The hexagonal shape enhances the feel, and makes it easy to hold steadily. The length, weight and balance are just right. Well worth the price.

Great pencil that I use every day, all day, for the last 5+ years
I have been using this pencil for the last 5 years, and love it. It is very dependable, holds plenty of extra lead, and the erasers are good and don't need to be replaced very often at all. Clip can come off from time to time, but it stays put and is easy to use to mark my place in my moleskine cahier journals. Would definitely buy again, but don't need to unless I lose this one.

Disappointing
For an expensive designer mechanical pencil, I found this to be disappointing. Tech color was nice but the design was very plain. The smooth surface made this the most slippery mechanical pencil I've owned, and the aluminum body appears to be coated or otherwise treated in such a way that it feels very much like plastic. The weight is reasonable, no complaints there. I also dislike the .7mm thickness compared to my preferred .5mm. This is all totally subjective(!) but it's definitely not worth the expense to me. I prefer the Staedtler or the Nicpro aluminum mechanical pencils.

Awkwardly weighed pencil
The pencil weighs heavier towards the back instead of the front. Doesn’t provide an effortless experience like my 3mm fixpencil. Then, I compared this to the Leuchturm 0.7. Leuchturm this weighed towards the tip of the pencil, and I can write effortlessly with it. Despite my desire to extend my Caran Dache collection I kept the Leuchturm. Caran Dache is a beauty, though.
