I bought the wood handled set hoping the weight would be comparable to a pencil. I found they do not tighten on thinner pencils. I tried them on several different types of pencils, some fit -- like Prismacolor -- and some didn't -- like Crayola. You can wrap a bit of tape around the base of the pencil to get it to fit, but that's a bit of a chore. Then again, for the price here you get 5, whereas an art store will charge the same price for a single extender.

For all the fancy-dancy mechanical pencils I own, I really like the good ol' yellow and green Ticonderoga wooden pencil for work. Smooth writing and dependable, but I didn't like throwing it away when it got too short. BUT NOW, I can sharpen it down to 1.5" and still use it with this wooden pencil extender. You get 5 (I really don't need 5), but the price is right. When you get the stub down to 1.5", it does get a little loose and wobbly, but it's still a good product. I imagine it would be very good to extend the use of your coloring pencils.

Despite what others wrote, these pencil extenders do NOT hold Prismacolor Premiere pencils securely unless one uses a bit of masking tape on the base of the pencil. Even then one cannot wrap the pencil even once in the tape. Instead one needs to put tape around half the pencil. Then the extender will fit really well. I found that when I inserted just the pencil, the metal locking collar (it tightens the metal sleeve portion) pulled up around the pencil and it seemed secure until one turned or otherwise manipulated the pencil slightly. Then it just came right out of the holder. I am at a loss to explain what all the "fits Prismacolors perfectly" reviews are all about. And of course, they don't fit Polychromos or Derwent pencils (any version) at all.Contrary to some, I like the naked wood and the simple design. I find that adding a little masking tape to pencils that otherwise were too short to use at all is an easy fix and they are very secure that way even with the locking collar pulled just partway up. Bottom line, I will use these extenders and like their simplicity but if you expect them to fit Prismas without modification look elsewhere to a more expensive product.

These things would be super awesome if they didn’t fall apart. The part where the metal and wood met kept separating or falling off. I just dropped some super glue or nail glue in and fixed the problem. Don’t overload the glue or it will interfere with your pencil. Also make sure when you do glue that your pencil is not in the metal holder or you may never get it out. Once I fixed them they work fantastic. Just know when buying you will have to do a little work when they arrive.

Be prepared to super glue the little metal pencil holder part back onto the stick. And the stick is plain, unfinished wood so you might want to wrap it in electrical tape. After that, they'll get the job done. But next time, I think I'll spend a few extra bucks and get some higher quality pencil extenders. I use them for my Prismacolor Premier colored pencils when they get short and stubby. I'd rather have some that are good to go right out of the package since I use these colored pencils quite a bit.

This is a very handy tool. If you are almost out of pencil but there is enough there that can still be used but the short pencil is too hard to handle, just put on the extender and back to drawing!!!

These extenders are double sided so they can fit different sizes of pencil including my graphites and my charcoals. They also fit perfectly in the case I use for all my sketching supplies. There are moveable rings that ensures the ends fit tightly on the pencil, but you can move it up easily to pull the pencil out as need be.
