Worth trying.
Takes readings pretty fast. I need to use it more to see if the pros outweigh the simple optical option for the work that I do (coarse cross sections of roads every few months). This was 1 star for me to start with until I figured out what the operator errors were.I needed to right click the .exe program and check Run this program as an administrator to make downloading data work. I think this should be prominently posted somewhere. I found it because we were brainstorming that maybe Windows 10 wasn't compatible (not the issue), and the check box is in that tab. Frustrating when you don't know what to do.I was having lots of trouble with succesfully getting readings because I filtered out or forgot the Eyepiece Adjustment instructions in the manual. Kept getting errors. Finally figured out that the eye piece can be rotated to adjust the focus of the reticle (cross hairs). I need to go look at the optical one we have to see if it has the same feature [it does].Important to note that after I figured this stuff out I still wanted to know what kind of support Leica has. I called them up, and the person who answered was knowledgable enough and was nice.Worth noting that readings can be taken when a person is holding the rod (not as still as using a bipod). Readings can be taken if the rod is held roughly vertical by eye. This does not come with a tripod. That's fine with me but just be aware.2020 July 01 update:I changed the number of stars from 4 stars to 3 stars.Manual doesn't talk about how steady the staff needs to be held. I think this needs to be in the manual. Invalid measurements are a common error. It's difficult to know what's wrong. I have to troubleshoot what's wrong because the manual doesn't discuss problems that can come up in more detail. Does a light breeze that barely moves the instrument cause an error? Does cardboard need to be held behind the staff for better contrast?Example of weak wording from the manual:Use the lens hood to cover the objective when backlight disturbs. Also I lost data after the instrument automatically powered off when not in use and then bugged up when turning back on. Frustrating.
