Excellent WiFi
I bough this router as I had to relocate my PC away from the room where the router is/was. I needed good WiFi and hoped that this product would be better than my Virgin Media Superhub 3.0The interface was a bit clunky and after setting a new password, I then couldn't log in for some reason. I faffed about for 10 minutes, then I was suddenly able to log in with my new password, I'm not sure what the problem was, but it seemed to sort itself out. I quickly proceeded to configure the WiFi and set the SSID's up (for 2.4Ghz & 5GHz), and it's been good, really good actually. In the same room as the router, I get 200Mbs on my phone, and in the room where the PC now is, using a 5G USB WiFi dongle, I get around the same, though it does drop down to about 50Mb occasionally, which is still fine.Overall very pleased with it. It does what I needed it to.

Excellent replacement for ISP router
Used this at a friends house to replace the WIFI router of cable internet service provider, as the one they provide has shocking signal. Just need to configure theirs into modem mode and connect to the WAN on this router. Once configured it works perfectly and had no issues. Random connection drops were frequent before this replacement, but no longer occurring.I would definitely recommend this as a budget solution, but I would invest more money if you're serious about connection strength and speed for gaming etc. No complaints with this product however.

Nice UI but fairly basic
Bought to use instead of rubbish ISP supplied router. As I'm with EE and youo can't turn their box into modem mode only it took some fiddling to get this working but I have eventually without double NAT problems. It appears to work well and the user interface is quite nice. Reception is OK (old Victorian houose) and probably a little better than the EE box but nothing spectacular. I bought it mainly for a better interface and DHCP server.

Great coverage; good replacement for cable ISP router.
Plenty of items to play with, if that is your thing, but after setting basic ISP (if needed), IP & wireless requirements it is a very good router with excellent range.Comes with 2 separate wireless ranges, 2.4ghz & 5ghz, which allows selection of whichever is the best (& least used) frequency. Have found that the 5ghz range is better for distance coverage but that the 2.4ghz range is better through reinforced concrete.Overall a good router, especially if bought during an Amazon "cheap" sale period.

Better than Virgin Hub 3 but not amazing
I got this after seeing price was reduced. Setup was a nightmare because it didn't initially recognize the modem. I searched forums and found you have to turn on the modem followed by the router in that particular order. The reliability was better than the Hub 3 but the range was only slightly better. I got it to improve connection to an external IP camera but it wasn't up to the job.I have returned it and have paid a lot more for a TP link Deco mesh system. It's worth it. Much better signal and no black spots

It simply doesn't work
This is absolutely the worst router I've ever used. I bought this to replace the terrible Virgin "super hub". Turns out the Virgin hub is an absolute joy to use compared to this.First the WiFi signal drops out completely every 60 seconds. This is not an exaggeration I mean literally every 60 seconds. It wouldn't stay on long enough to do a speed test. I tried every option, I did a firmware upgrade, I prayed to every deity know and unknown and even bit off the head of a live chicken while running round a grave stone anti clockwise at 3 minutes past midnight on a full wolf blood super moon. Still drops every WiFi signal. Then the wired connection started to drop out. I reboot, I found a second chicken but nothing. Please people for the love of your choice of higher being, don't buy this terrible product. It's currently on it's way back to Amazon as we speak and the box may or may not have a few feathers and a bit of blood in it. Maybe a small amount of some type of animal waste, I can't be sure. Please stay well clear.

Doesn't do what it says on the tin
Short review: good interface, some good features (eg multiple guest networks), terrible signal, constantly dropping or refusing to connect devices, and no VPN support.Bought on the basis of Asus' reputation, and advertised features such as strong signal. Set up was easy, interface is clear, firmware updated. All good so far.In use, not so much, unfortunately. Router would connect devices, then drop them randomly, or just refuse to connect in the first place ; didn't matter how close or far away they were.Signal was noticeably weaker than the netgear unit this was to replace.Final nail in the coffin was the device wouldn't support VPN services, and there is no open source firmware (eg dd wrt) to fill the gap.The naming of the device bears some responsibility : this is the ac57u, the ac56u has both vpn support and open source firmware. In spite of this looking like a minor revision bump, it isn't.Returned, and bought an Asus ac66u off ebay for half the price.Asus has some really good routers out there, for me the ac57u isn't one of them. Also note that many of the reviews on amazon are for other Asus routers, including ones a grade or two above this 57u. Caveat emptor.

Inexpensive OpenWRT router!
If you looking for a router on which you will be able to install OpenWRT and unleash its full potential, this ASUS router for just £32.99 (v1) is a perfect solution. Even that ASUSWRT software is ok, you will get much more with OpenWRT without breaking the budget. Works great with VirginMedia (when SuperHub is in Modem Mode). Perfect for semi-advanced/advanced users with basic knowledge of Linux.
