Works with the Lowe's Iris system
I bought this lock because I had used the same lock without Z wave for years, and have been extremely please with it's performance. The lock is very easy to install and program, the batteries last a little over a year, and the lock has never failed, or given me a problem. When I saw that the new Lowe's Iris system was going to support the deadbolt version of this lock, and since both versions of the lock use the same Z wave module, I decided to try it out. Even though the Iris software doesn't show this lock as being supported, the lock pairs with the system, and works at it's simplest level. I suspect better intergration will happen when the software is officially updated to include this lock. At the present time you can lock, unlock and view the current lock status from the app the lock also writes to the log file when locked, or unlocked and the corresponding time. At the present time you can not program in multiple users, and the lock does not report which code was used to unlock the lock. The first lock I received from Amaozon had a bad Z wave card, but the whole lock was quickly replaced by Amazon, and the new lock worked flawlessly. I will be slowly replacing all of my entry door locks with these locks!

If your renting out rooms, look at this.
Bought this because its a name brand with quality and its Zwave which works well with my security system. No longer have to keep buying door locks when renters take keys with them, just change the code. My security system logs unlock/lock and creates a log which could come into use if they claim theft or think someone entered their room, provided they locked it upon leaving. Installs fairly easy espcially if there is an existing door knob in door to replace. The part that took a bit of time is connecting wire from keypad to bedroom side assembly and putting together and keeping wire out of the way. If you have installed a door knob before, you can do this. No more duplicating keys or changing assembly due to missing keys! If renters lock themselves out or forgot their code, we can remotely unlock the door.

Quality control issues, but overall good.
When working, they are great, but they do clearly have some quality control issues. We bought 3 of these (2 bronze and one brushed nickel) and installed them on the same day. We were pairing with the Wink Hub 2. Installation was relatively easy, but the first one did make us scratch our heads for a bit. THe directions are sparing. Of the three, none of them works ideally--but all for different reasons. We first re-keyed to match our current key and that worked for all 3--but one lock is a bit 'sticky'. We paired all three with the Wink Hub 2. Two were super easy and one was quite difficult. I am not sure if the problems pairing were because it was the first one we did (of this set--we've used Wink Hub 2 for other smart items in the hose) or if this lock was defective. The one lock that we had a lot of trouble pairing to the hub (we eventually got it to work)--its keypad is non-responsive. We can lock/unlock the lock using both the Wink device and the newly keyed key, however we could not program or use the keypad entry. Since the other two work fine, I am confident it is the lock and not an issue with us not knowing how to do it. The lock does have power and does light up when using other methods to work the lock, but it will not make a noise or unlock using the keypad. Lastly, and probably least, one of our locks is only sometimes responsive to using the Wink app/hub. I say this is the 'least' problem because it is expected given it is to the outter door to our garage, and it is not terribly surprising the wireless signal is iffy through another metal door and reinforced walls. We plan to add smart light switches to (hopefully) act as a repeater. The bottom line: when working, they are awesome. They re-keyed easily...set-up wasn't too painful, and it is nice to have a means to open the door with a key pad or an app. The downsides are that clearly they haven't worked out all the bugs. We will be returning the one with the bum keypad. We will keep the lock with the sticky key entry--although it is annoying, but mostly we won't have to use a key for that door. And the other one that is slightly out of range is a known issue that we think we have a solution for.

Love this lock but...
These are great if you have a zwave system. I wanted something that would notify me if opened. This almost does that. It can alert you through systems such as SmartThings that it's been unlocked but not opened. Also out of the box you're going to need a lock oil. Both locks refused to lock after being opened (timed auto lock), however using a good lock oil in the key hole has resolved my issues.Love being able to provide guests with key codes. Add or remove codes easily and the auto lock. Now If I could just get the kids to close the door on their way out it would work even better.

Excellent lock
That's probably not the most secure lock in the world, but when you don't have a bolt, this is the way to go. Also, I suspect because entire mechanism of lock/unlock is in the housing, it less susceptible to extra cold or extra hot. Z-wave inclusion is slightly less trivial than other locks (via inclusion process of custom z-wave controls with Wink), but quick and painless. You do it once anyway and then it just works. Very happy with this lock.

Everything I had hoped for.
It was previously paired to another zwave hub, I assume this was done at the time of manufacturing or test post manufacturing. In order to pair this device with a new hub one MUST remove the old pairing using the provided instructions. This is a great product with which I've had no issues other than the install taking 30 minutes instead of 15. I have no complaints at all. Just a heads up to new buyers that could save them some frustration.

Solid product, but problematic installation. Added to Wink Network of 70+ devices. All great in the end.
I'll start by saying that I really like this product, now that it is installed. However, there were a couple of installation disappointments:1) This is a retrofit into a door with a pressfit (round, hammer in to side of door) latch, rather than one that is inserted and screwed in via two screws and a latch plate. Every other lock I've ever purchased has included both options in the box. When I got to the point in the instructions that described inserting the latch, it said, "For a pressfit latch, call this number and we'll send one out to you". I called, and the agent was very polite, and indeed, without hesitation, he offered to send out the latch, saying that it would take up to 7 business days for me to receive it. So, needless to say, that was a big disappointment. What I ended up doing was chiseling out the outline of the plate, and therefore managed to circumvent the week-long wait. This was a terrible cost-savings measure on Kwikset's part.2) Wink pairing. I had to pair the lock 3 times, the third time via Wink technical support. The Kwikset 912 lever lock is not on Wink's "Add a product" lock list, the "program button" is a different one than is labelled "program button", so that part was a little confusing as well. The lock didn't want to unpair between attempts. (Note that I am a professional engineer, very technical, and I have paired over 70 devices in my home to my Wink hubs, so pairing is not new to me.)I also purchased and installed 3 Schlage deadbolt locks. Installation of each of these took only 10 minutes each, including pairing. The Kwikset lock took 2.5 hours (including chiseling out the door).I feel like Schlage is just a better company overall, and seems to know their locks better than Kwikset. Having said all of that, now that the Kwikset is properly installed, it's solid, very nice looking, and has functioned perfectly so far. I really do like it. We'll see how it responds to the cold Canadian climate over the winter.

install instructions are good and it wasn't hard to do the install
So far so ok... install instructions are good and it wasn't hard to do the install. z-wave make sure you take the device to within a few inches of your hub, as it really does make a difference for pairing for some reason. That's where the 'ok' comes in. The range on this is terrible!!! I believe its only Z-wave, not plus, but still... It about 10 feet from my z-wave controller through a window/wall and it randomly stops working. Moving my hub 6-12 inches has fixed it... so its very picky about signal strength.

Handy smart lock!
This handle/lock is great. The apartment I’m renting only had a single hole in the door for the hardware and this fit the bill. You can purchase a z-wave controller card separately along with a wink hub (also separate) and be able to control this lock from your smartphone. As a key code only device it is solid as well and has the ability to auto lock after a minute. Happy with my purchase.
