The difference is that this instrument is made for a student in middle/high school and/or college. Not for a professional musician who makes music for a living. This is an excellent instrument for any use. I highly recommend it.

Is the instrument metal or plastic ?

All of the model ETR-380x are brass instruments (metal).

Do I need a teacher to learn how to play this, or does it come with an instruction booklet?

There is no real instruction book. They make books on how to play trumpet, and there's YouTube, but a teacher would be best if you're completely new to instruments
