Info from tech re TN474U and Ni-Cd
Was confused because Amazon product description says item charges N-MH/Ni-Cd, but the packaging says for Ni-MH. Asked the tech group and this is what they told me.“NiMH and NiCd batteries both have the nominal voltage of 1.2V, therefore customers can use NiMH charger to charge NiCd batteries. However, because some NiCd have very low capacity, it is not recommended to put them in some NiMH charger, as they have a high charging speed. This can cause the NiCd batteries to overcharge or over-heat.We want to remind users that the charging speed of our TN474U charger is 450mA per channel, therefore we do NOT recommend putting any NiCd batteries that are lower then 800mAh.”.Hope this helps!

A Very Versatile Little Battery Charger!
I've been using rechargeable batteries almost since Sanyo put their eneloops on the market. When Panasonic purchased that company, their charger which had individual "charging bays" so to speak, was different b/c it could charge individual batteries rather than only in pairs of batteries, AND charge them much faster. That's NOT how eneloops started out, though! Theirs needed to be charged slowly, so I purchased their charger for them. There's a quirk in Panasonic's charger, though—that this Tenergy charger DOES NOT have—because Panasonic's all too often reacts to my older eneloops like they've reached the end of their lifespan.Fortunately, I still have my old Sanyo eneloop chargers & they happily charge all their older batteries & new batteries with no problem, just like this lovely little Tenergy charger does which will also charge just one or 3 batteries at a time. This is important to me because the battery packs of 7 of my strings of tiny white fairy lights take just THREE batteries each as does Forrest my little tree. So, I would give it 10 stars if I could!

Battery Heater that also Charges, Product Safety is Suspect
Seems to charge alright, though it seems slow for a fast charger.Big problem is that my batteries get very hot while charging, which will reduce their usable lifespan considerably. Product description mentions "minimal heat" but I have other fast chargers that are able to charge at much lower temperatures.Much worse, the listing states that the product is CE certified but the product itself does not have the CE mark. It only bears the FCC mark and encircled BC. Neither of these markings are related to product safety, the first just means it will not cause significant electromagnetic interference, the other refers to conforming to energy efficiency standards in California. The listing also claims RoHS compliance, which refers to Restriction of Hazardous Substances, but the mark is also missing from the product. Even then, this mark only represents a portion of a product's safety.Without CE or UL markings the consumer is forced to trust the company entirely for its safety, and the company can likely dodge liability in the event there is a malfunction that causes significant material damage.Lack of safety assurances plus the excessive charging temperature does not put my mind at ease when using this product.Fortunately for the seller there are few alternatives with the same features. I will only use this for emergencies with a USB solar panel, and then only under close supervision.
