Q: How good is the side visibility of this light?

My favorite rear light so far, I use the HotShot 300 on my rear strut and the Lezyne 300 strip on rear post... can’t beat the battery life on the Lezyne... 150-180 degree visibility

Q: How is it rated against water penatration?

not sure of the rating but mine has gotten soaked several times. Seems pretty water tight and well made. I don't think water will be a problem.

Q: Why does the angle that is labeled >270° in the graphic on the side of the unit measure <270°?

I have two of these and they both show >270° on the unit itself. In addition to the main, rear-facing lens, there is a protruding side panel on each side that fits between the notches of the fastening band. These would be the source of any visible flashing light beyond the 180° arc seen from a rear viewpoint. However, given the rider's legs, anyone in an oncoming position from an angle beyond 200° would not see much in the way of a warning flash (maybe just a diffuse red glow from the whole contraption), hence, the need for a flashing white headlight.

Q: I don't see the charging port. where is it? can you easily get the usb plug into to charge the light, without removing the light from the bicycle?

There is a rubber cap on the bottom which pops off, but stays attached to the light. This covers the USB port. Depending on where you mount the light you could easily plug it in and recharge on the bike. Then unplug and recover with the cap. Personally I remove each time and charge in the house. With the rubber strap it’s a less than a second to attach to my bike.
