I don't know where its made but its the brand that is sold at walmart and shopko seems to be pretty good quality I use mine all the time and its still in good shape.

It slows down in the evening. It usually starts getting hungry around that time.

Q: Does "heat treated heads" mean that the blade is steel as well as the handle?

The blade is tempered steel and the handle is fiberglass, which is better than hickory wood, IMHO. I bought this one because the hickory wood handle in my old shovel (which was inscribed with USA, Tempered") broke.
