You pay more but you get more. This is a rock solid vise that does not rack when only using one side to hold something. The fit and finish is superb. And there is very little play or movement of the jaws, etc. Like the headline says - Rock Solid!

You can get a similar vice for a lot less money, and spend a lot more time to install it correctly. Still, it won't function as well as this one. There are better vices for twice the money, with more complicated installs. All said, this is the best vice for the money, and can be your lifetime, permanent one.

I have one complaint. The threaded rod is about 1/16" higher than the frame. The item you want to clamp will ride that rod and row away as you tighten the vice. I had to add shims to the top of the frame and the same shims to the mounting plate that you attach to the bench. Easy fix if you know to do that. It is solid as a rock and has about 7 3/4" of travel depending on the material that is mounted to the vice.

It was a pain to mount to my table but I love the way it clamps. It would have been nice if there was a quick release to allow for fast opening instead of having to wind it in and out with the handle.

When you open the box you know this is a high quality unit. Opens and closes smoothly. It is not a quick release unit, but I'm okay with that doesn't take much to open and close. I made my wooden jaw 22" wide. There is little to no racking. An excellent vise.

I watched a video where Rob Cosman swore by the quality of this vise and how it won't rack. True, true true! Its heavy, and larger then it looks in the pictures, but its a GREAT bench vise! My only "nit" is that the handle isn't as long as what I'm used to. Small complaint. Great bench vise!!

The vise works really well now that I figured out how to install it, but the instructions leave a lot to be desired.They seem to be from an older version that is similar but not exactly the same as the one that was received.Despite that, it is an excellent vise. It had great clamping pressure and doesn't rack at all. If you realize that there is a little bit of racking, there are two bolts on the right side that you can adjust to remove the racking. A word of advise though, if you tighten those bolts too much, the handle become harder to turn.
