Q: Is the bag a softback or hardback? I'm looking for a bag that will stand up on it's own without collasping immediately.

It's a softback. The entire bag is made of a canvas fabric. It's an excellent bag, but it will not stand up on its own.

yes it'll fit a laptop that size, but the zipper might not close. that's almost exactly the same size as the laptop I carry in it now

Q: how does this handle rain? will it easily soak through if you get caught out there during a storm?

I had this bag with me when I got caught in a downpour while visiting New Orleans and the outside did get soaked (as did I). However, the inside is lined with a plastic/nylon-type material, so nothing in the bag itself got wet. And the outside dried out fairly quickly.

Really impressed with the quality!

I'm a fan of the Television Series '24' - and the lead actor Keifer Sutherland plays "Jack Bauer". This bag becomes a staple of his character in the later seasons. It is very similar to the one used on the show and it is very versatile. I love the fabric, the bag hangs nice, is very roomy, and can store alot of personal effects. I have a similar bag by Rothco brand, and I'm more impressed with this one by Rapid Dominance :)

Great for the price !

Seems very well built, I can't say 100% as I have not tested it yet but it is made of heavduty material, the capacity is great, both side pouches should hold a full size smart water bottle.

Ojo que es bolsa de mensajero...

Es una excelente mochila de mensajero, con gran espacio y de lona de calidad, es pesada pero se entiende por lo que brinda de espacios, los cierres son de seguridad, cosa que muchos no entienden; se traban porque son para que no se abran con facilidad; si buscas una mochila para llevar muchos documentos, libros y demas es excelente... ojo que para laptops no es; no tiene compartimientos para mantener el equipo quieto.
