Q: I bought these for 1-1/2" pvc, but it doesn't fit. says it goes up to 1-5/8". am i missing something?

1 1/2 in. pvc is 1.9 outside dia. that is more than 1 5/8

for $14 just buy a new tool.. I use mine for home use and I cant for see me wearing it out if properly used on materials it is designed for. For the price it works well.
