the best thing since sliced jam
Ive had trouble in the past with my own signal and phone network at markets so that has cased issues for me in the past using the regular sumup air. I also needed employees to cover shifts but it was always a hassle to leave my phone or get them to setup the sumup app on their phone. but this sumup solo has been the bee's knees. it works really well and seems to get network in places my phone network sometimes struggles. it can connect to wifi but I've never really needed to do that other than to download software updates and the one time I couldn't get network on the sumup, my phone network was ok so I just used it with bluetooth using the sump app on my phone like a standard sump air. some things that's not an issue for me but to make you aware of is it is strictly just a card machine, so if you make multiple sales with different prices there is no product buttons like the mobile app so you will need to do the total sum as one sale (I'm not good with maths so I need to pull out the calculator a lot) also if you need to put a cash sale through you cannot do it through this machine, that can only be done through the mobile app. I don't think that's a flaw, it is just a portable card machine not an actual interface POS like the Sumup lite (which is basically just a tablet with the mobile app connected to this card machine). again these are not problems for me but I have heard people make those complaints and also some complaints say the battery in them die in 2-4 hrs , 9 out of 10 times they just need a software update! mine lasts a busy weekend 1.5 days (12hrs) without charge and id say 3-4 days (32hrs) slow week because it goes into standby when its inactive for a few minutes. The display is very clean looking and easy for the customers to use and it just looks a lot more professional than the sumup air.In 1 and a half years mine has had one fall onto concrete, The screen didn't crack but left a typical scuff on the side. it has still works fine

Fatally flawed
Not good at all. I ran one of these for a year without a problem, but then the inbuilt security lock suddenly triggered, leaving me with a useless device (they cannot be unlocked). It wasn't dropped or misused but was used for a day where the signal was very poor, with lots of failed transactions as a result. Sumup's customer service proved extremely poor, with just a load of repeated copy & pasted stock replies, but as the device was out of warranty (by a few weeks), my only option was to buy a replacement. The replacement lasted for one day of use before the security lock triggered again, just as before (in another location with poor signal). These devices seem to have a fatal flaw in that use with a poor signal kills them. It will let you down and Sumup seem to be completely unbothered, just as long as they can keep selling these devices. I am now moving to a better provider in the hope of some quality equipment.

Good little machine
Good machine and fairly easy to set up.Only downside is the battery isn’t great. Feels like even with little use it needs to be constantly put in charge. The payments and statements from SumUp are great - very quick and easy to read. The actual set up is easy and can also email receipts to customers if they would like - nice paperless and efficient!

Connect to a Hotspot
Bought this as an upgrade for the cheap £19 machine but am about to send it back as it takes an age to connect or take payments. Great that it didn't need a phone, but processing transactions takes ages as system 'hangs' before allowing customer to pay. Far from ideal & several are annoyed waiting to pay. I'm just going to buy the basic version that worked fine.EDIT: March 2023. I persevered with it and found that if I disable the mobile data element and instead use the WiFi part to my Hotspot on my mobile it generally is a lot quicker.Just run into a software issue which I'm assuming will be confirmed as under warranty as its under a year old. Otherwise, I've revised my previous rating accordingly.

Great little payment machine
Got this for regular charity events and to enable contactless payments / donations and to counter "sorry, haven't got any change". Connects easily to a mobile network so doesn't need a mobile to connect to (although it could if needed). It worked quickly and easily and, with all SumUp payments, takes a couple of days for the funds to transfer to the bank account.I'd read some reviews that complained about battery life so, we keep a fully charged power pack as standby. This meant that it'll work for as long and where ever it can connect to a mobile network, either on it's own or via a mobile.Used SumUp for years and this little payment machine works well for us.

No power supply supplied
Disappointed that no power supply is included, just a lead, splash out on the unit then have to spend again to purchase a PSU (Not to mention the delay & not being able to use the reader straight away)Setting up the unit for first time use was more difficult than expected, it's sold as being able to use built in mobile data but needs wifi to update is self during setup.Mine sat for some time on please wait, looking as though it was stuck in a loop and took over 30 mins just to be able to take payments.

Faultless. Worked much better than expected.
Purchased 2 machines. Used for multiple bar and food sales in a field in Devon. All transactions went through instantly using built-in sim card.
