Decent lighter for a reasonable price in a size that works well to start fires. Those who have used pine lighter wood from old growth long leaf pine stumps, will need to adjust expectations. This wood does not have nearly the level of resin built up as old growth lighter wood. Overall the the wood starts and burns well, but the same could be said for dried yellow heart pine wood with a lot of resin. The box is convenient and the wood is drier in appearance than one generally sees if harvesting locally, but over time all will fade and the resin will be less effective. How to know if you have a good product. Starts Easy and will have a creosote/black smoke immediately. Lighter wood with heavy amounts of resin will also make a sound as the resin burns off. Overall the product is a good product and packaged weight was as stated.

You don't even need simple tools to accurately identify this is high quality fatwood. Incredibly useful for fires, I mostly utilize fatwood at the beach in firepits and such, as park troopers over in SoCal come runnin (for great reason, mind you) at the first sign of smoke. A little goes a long way, take some shavings or a small feather stick off a stick if you're dealing with slightly damp wood. Personally, I love the scent of fatwood. I collected my own last time I was up in the mountains and kept it in my trunk in a little box. Not overpowering, just enough that my friends/family/significant other thing I use a nice woody air freshener. Being able to simply buy some off Amazon saves me some time collecting but takes some of the fun out of it all. Alas, that's the trade-off. Definitely recommended if you currently can't be bothered or don't have ready access to collecting your own.

I had to review this product. I got a load of “seasoned” wood… two full cords. It is green and wet. It has been a horror to burn…Enter Ecostix. I could not believe how incredible this kindling is!!! It is freezing here in northern NY. What a pleasure to use a few of these Ecostix and the fire starts right up!!! I’m a lifelong customer, and just added the big box to my cart!! :)

Sits in a box in my basement. Wish I could return.

These work great. I've ordered them a handful of times. My only issue is that the latest box arrived and it is significantly smaller than the old box, which I still have. And the smaller box was only about half full. I know I can get fatwood at the local hardware store. It's a few dollars more there, but at least I know I'm getting a full 5 pounds. I may just go there next time.
