The Joshua Tree

Good for the MSG live show from '87 but the main album is the same as 10 years ago
Edit: I had to lower the rating (I know Bono is crying as he reads this) as I found out that the MSG show is not complete. It is missing several songs, including Bad (not acceptable to skip a classic like this), the Unforgettable Fire, Spanish Eyes (rare to hear this at all live), and maybe another song or two. They should have skipped the 2007 remaster disc and just made this a complete, 2-CD recording of MSG.Original Review:This is okay, as it includes for the first time, a show from the US Joshua Tree Tour in 1987. Before this, the only full show released was the Paris Joshua Tree show DVD that came with the 20th anniversary box set. That show was not what one expects as the set list is quite atypical for JT. It does not open with Where the Streets Have No Name and actually they don't even play it during that entire show. So, I would say this is really the first full JT tour show released, which makes this special. Nice that they include it with the cheaper version and not just with the expensive (and kind of pointless super deluxe box set). Strangely, they play I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For twice in this show, fairly similar sounding versions, instead of another JT song (like One Tree Hill, Red Hill Mining Town -- never played live though until the current 2017 JT tour, Mothers of the Disappeared, etc.).But like another reviewer noted, it is disappointing that the original album is just the 2007 (20th anniversary) remaster. It would have been AWESOME to have a 5.1 surround multichannel SACD or DVD-A/BD-audio, as this album really is perfect for a surround presentation with discrete separation not just into left and right channels, but into left, right, center, and two surrounds (plus subwoofer). Alas, nothing like that in either this or the box set. So, in the end, the only reason to buy this album (assuming that most U2 fans already have the JT album) is the MSG show, which is a pretty good sounding performance and recording.

This was a good buy; better to be a late alert fan than never!
Talk about a late arrival (me as a U2 fan). I am a very recent "alert" U2 fan thanks to seeing Bono's most fabulous Surrender book memoir tour in person; then watching tons of concert videos and interviews, getting Songs of Surrender CDs (a work of art in their own right) and finally getting this CD set! I have of course heard many of these originals on the radio in the past but was not clued in to details. Now I am. So I'm late to the party but glad to be here. I am very happy to have this CD set, and also am reaffirmed in the unique value that Songs of Surrender also has, for certain moods.

One of my favorite recordings of all time. Just a little bit better.
Wow, this is nice fresh sound. I don't know how many of the Cd's I have gone through and at least one set of speakers blown ,the thousand of bits of black cones. There have been many recordings that I am on a third Cd on. The record that had the vinyl replacement the most was Miles Davis "Kind of Blue", my 3rd. LP was left in London with a cousin. And now I am on my third Cd, soon to be fourth purchase this time I am looking for a SACD or higher quality of sound.I am glad that many artist's are putting out updated Remastered Recording. When that started and I heard new remastered or even SACD Cd's I spent a lot. This is worth what I paid for it. I cannot review the live recording as I don't have a reference. I am

The Joshua Tree one of U2's greatest albums; if not their best
The Joshua Tree is obviously one of U2's greatest albums; if not their best. However, I am disappointment this is the same remaster from the previous release 10 years ago. Shockingly, the noise floor on their U218 Singles album is much higher. That includes songs pulled from The Joshua Tree. Great to have the second album containing the 1987 MSG live performance. However, as others mentioned, it is lacking pertinent songs. Over all, a good value, but it could have been better...

to add to my large CD collection
Can't go wrong with anything U2! THIS was one of their finest...had to have it, especially after reading Bono's book SURRENDER.
