Well constructed, beautiful Holy Catholic Bible.
This is a beautiful, well-constructed Bible. The Preface by W.H. McClellan provides a wonderful introduction of encouragement to read the Bible and how and why to read it! The Encyclical Letter by Pope Leo XIII is terrific in being an informative guide and resource of understanding the Holy Bible. The Binding and print font are excellent and just right for me. Seems that with care this Bible should last the rest of my lifetime. There are also a few wonderful, beautiful pictures before the Bible begins.

Most legible Douay Rheims Bible I've Encountered
I was happy to be able to purchase this Douay Rheims edition for under $39. I was trying to decide between this edition or the Baronius Standard edition. I'm so glad I picked this one because the font is darker, larger, and very legible to read. The two ribbons are the largest I've seen for a Douay Rheims Bible. I think it would have been a nice touch if there was gold gilded edges but as far as a daily Bible this one is fantastic and highly recommended if you want to get Douay Rheims Bible.

Excellent Bible.
After reading about King James I began to have doubts that the King James version of the Bible is the best to use. A friend suggested a Douay-Rheims version, which is from the year 1899. It is interesting that there are books in this version that have been removed from the King James version. I enjoy reading this Douay-Rheims version, I only wish the font was larger.

Great study bible
I like the weight of the paper and text size, the quality of the material is very good. All of these are important factors in determining whether or not it will last for years of handling and use in the study groups and private reading I do. It will be very important in my day to day life. Looking forward to many years of enjoyment.

Best Douay-Rheims Bible put there! New and revised!
The Douay-Rheims has had an cherished place in the hearts of all real Catholics being it was the only English edition read for almost 300+ years. Until the late 1800s to mid 1900s. It was translated from the Latin Vulgate of St. Jerome (or some variant of it) and predates the King James Version by a few years. The Loretto Edition is top notch! New typecast (extremely readable), leather on hardcover, beautiful pictures, and family tree section (baptisms, marriages, sacraments, etc). I am by no means a Douay-Rheims purist but it does hold a venerable place in my heart and this edition is the best I have seen.

One of first translations into English . Nice high qualityConstructed Bible at reasonable cost.
Obviously the main reason I like that this Bible is Pre-Vatican 2, with scriptures from the Latin Vulgate Old Testament and New Testament. Originally published by Douay Bible House in 1941, based on Old Testament first published in 1609 and New Testament first published 1582.The book itself is well constructed with leather sewn binder and cover, nice crisp legible text, and index by names of books and in order under Old and New Testaments. Two nice ribbons to keep placeholders. This is my main Bible used with reference to The New American Bible 1970 if trouble with older language.

Not great, but good! Worth the price!
First off, I must say, this Bible is really great. If I sound critical, it's because I have other editions of the Douay-Rheims Bible that I prefer, and they've spoiled me (thanks, Baronius Press).I want to love this Bible so much! Its binding is rock solid, with a rugged leather cover that feels like it'll last a lifetime. The text is clear and readable. The translation is the best English Bible translation we have, by far. I love the giant ribbon markers! So what gives?Well, it feels expensive and looks cheap. It's too busy with the fonts. The text is easily legible, but they use a couple different fonts on a page, and of varying sizes and boldness. It's distracting. Also, they do weird stuff with the layout, like the three-dots thing on the table of contents, where lines or hyphens should be (see photo). Also, the blue cross patterns on the endpages are very odd and harsh on the eyes. Also, the illustrations are poor print quality, and are from different artists, with different degrees of clarity. They have an inkjet, middle school packet feel to them. Again, it looks cheap. But feels great to hold!Ghosting isn't bad at all, but it is noticeable on some of the illustrations where there's text on the opposite side. Again, looks cheap.I'm gonna quit ragging on this thing, but long story short, the Bible is worth the price, the translation can't be beat, and the binding is great. I prefer the Baronius Press edition, or the Lepanto Press edition Angelus Press carries. I can't justify owning and using this one when I already have those on my shelf. This one gives me a bit of anxiety to look at, which I'm a bit ashamed of saying, because it looks like Loreto really put a lot of work into this Bible.
